Scotland County football?

I am a long time fan of Sandhills football going back to the 70s but moved away years ago. But, I still enjoy following all of the teams on Friday nights when I can, and I particularly remember the big rivalries in the old Southeastern 4A Conference, especially with Richmond and Scotland. My question is for those knowledgeable about Scotland County football. They are still a solid program but certainly not the state power they were from around 2008 through around 2019 or so. I also notice they are now a classification below Richmond and Pinecrest. And, as of last night, I see they have lost 8 in a row to Pinecrest and have had issues with Richmond in recent years, too. Eight losses in a row to Pinecrest is a lot. Those rivalries do not seem very competitive any more. Is there a reason for this other than perhaps a drop in talent as cycles sometimes go, a decline in enrollment (which could be a reason for the decline in talent), or other aspects? The program seems a bit stagnated.

Definitely a decline in enrollment. I saw them play Jack Britt in 2019. They were still pretty solid then. They did beat Dillon. SC this year game 1. They are currently 3-2 with losses to Pinecrest and Richmond.

We used to have some iconic Scotland posters, I hope they are well and would love to see them comeback.

Issue is People are leaving scotland county and not moving into the county. Scotland is very much a rural area with limited growth so that is the issue. unless there is plan for more growth in that area then you will see more n more of a decline

I have been out of the business for about 5 years but then there was a lot of empty manufacturing buildings also. Small impact with St Andrew’s shutting down.

Hasn't the same thing happened in Richmond County? They have continued with some success so what's the difference?

Richmond is fighting hard not to fall down the economic pit that has sucked in Marlboro, Anson, and trying to get Scotland. Richmond does have a few industries left although they are a shell of what they use to be. But just like the other schools listed Richmonds numbers have been slowly declining. Anson and Marlboro both used to be the highest classifications. Marlboro was once upon a time 1 of the big 16 in SC
