If we were just getting beat, the massive amount of negativity that currently exists wouldn't be nearly as strong. But we're not just getting beat. Beginning with the Citrus Bowl, we have looked unprepared & undisciplined. That's why there's so much angst. Talent wise, we should have won that bowl, currently be 4-0, & ranked in the top 10. We are light years from where we should be because there are glaring, dare I say it, coaching issues. 14 penalties ain't a player problem......that's a coaching/discipline instilled problem. Play calling is a coaching problem. Lanorris not looking like Lanorris is a coaching problem. Middle school level tackling is a coaching problem. 4 & 5 star OL being one of the worst units in the country is a coaching problem. The negativity is brought on by all this. Had Vandy beat us 31-28, & just were better, there wouldn't be as much negativity. Had Missouri just been better than us, like we were them last season in a close, hard fought game, there wouldn't be as much negativity. However, the whole team dropped its shoulders when Lanorris went down vs. Vandy & that led to the whipping. Against Missouri, we gave them an entire football field in penalties, & called one of the DUMBEST plays in the history of organized football on 1st & goal inside the 2. And then there's the tackling.....

We haven't just been beaten. We're showing up week in week out looking like a poorly coached football team. That's why there's so much negativity.

Could have a least tried a couple of tush pushes before trying to pass.

The first and goal is definitely a head scratcher.
The conventional wisdom in that situation is to
run the ball.

perhaps Shula did not have a lot of confidence
in the run game (can't disagree), he did not wish to run Sellers for fear of injury (can't disagree) ,
and the pass plays were working .

If you believe in Karma , a bad play call should be followed by more bad outcomes . Sure enough - the offensive line let a defender through - this was followed by a Sellers mistake in not throwing the ball away.

It could have been worse- we did get 3 points.
However, the " errors" resulted in a significant
shift in momentum.

Yep. Even during 1-21 it wasn’t as frustrating. We knew they were awful, and had no expectations. I didn’t have high expectations myself for this season. Thinking 6-6 was realistic, maybe a little better depending on how they could replace the defense. But I didn’t expect the entire offense to regress. The poor tackling is inexplicable. We ought to be able to expect competent, fundamental football. If the opponents are simply better, so be it.

Negativity among fans is two things: situationally generated and inconsequential.

That's what Mizzo thought too ...

It's probably more consequential to our one split personality real person account where we can't even agree all the time. And fan negativity can certainly be noticed by a real athletic director. 😎

I should have been more specific. The inconsequentiality relates to player performance. Players cause negativity but don't adjust performance in response to it.

This reminds me. Remember a few years back when the hot argument was if posting caused the team to play better or worse?

I still get a chuckle over that one.
