This takes away one storyline for next year's game with Oregon.

With Frost getting HC experience, it could set up nicely for a return once Riley retires.

Good for Frost!............... But who says Frost ever wants to return to Nebraska? This is such a big assumption. Benning has been going on about it saying that he doesn't think Frost has huge interest to coach at Nebraska.

I like it. Build up the Florida ties and then come on home in a few years.
I think he'll be successful there...loads of talent.

Really? I thought Frost had stated Nebraska is his dream job.

Great call on his part. Instead of going to a decent conference, go to a lessor conference to gain your experience. Sometimes when coaches start out at crappy schools in big conferences it is just failure waiting to happen.

Fair question, and I have no idea if he'd be interested, but I wouldn't be interested in him either unless he succeeds at UCF so I guess everyone is going to have to wait and see how it all plays out I guess.

I was disappointed to hear this as well. I'd always thought Frost would come home, but Benning wasn't vague about Frost's interest. He really thinks that he doesn't want to deal with what comes with the NU job.

Frost vs Herman for the AAC championship next year? Good story line now that Herman has agreed in principle to extension with Coogs.

Frost wants to coach at Nebraska. It's his dream job according to people in his circle.

On Sharp and Benning, they said that Frost has never expressed much interest publicly. I am not saying that they are not incorrect, but it is what they said and I can't ever seem to recall Frost saying anything about it.

Nebraska is his dream spot. He wasn't happy that he didn't even get a call about the last opening here. Period.

Do you have a source for that? I only ask because Benning was almost adamant that Nebraska probably isn't a dream job to Frost and that Frost remembers not getting treated very well at Nebraska by the fans.

Good situation for all. Frost gets his head coaching feet wet in a place that has great access to talent, and Nebraska gets a chance to watch how he does as the head man before offering him the job hopefully in 5-6 years.

He doesn't have a source, other than the imaginary one.
Good for Scott. A former Husker out there working for his shot, and not sitting around being bitter about not getting a job here just because you played here.

We are saying the same thing. If he wasn't interested, he wouldn't be contacted.

Except the part where he was a little ticked off when he didn't get a call. Eichorst wasn't going to hire a first time head coach again even if he played here before. I'm sure if Eichorst called him up and offered he would have taken it, but he isn't ready for a job like this IMO and the power that be thought the same thing.

Another reason he's not coming until Eichorst is gone.

Good for frost, I hope he does well. seems like a good deal, florida weather, good recruiting, not crazy expectations like a big florida school. he should do well.

I enjoy when you post your opinions as absolutes when it's obvious you know very little about the situation.

I don't mind engaging in a bit of back and forth from time to time. Many factors form different opinions on a subject like this. I hope you don't take all my statements as absolutes (just as I would with yours), but we won't see Scott here until Eichorst is gone.

I guess you could do worse. Excited for him, and am I the only one thinking..."Make some inroads down in Florida so when you eventually take the job at Nebraska we can get some of those recruits"?
This. Perhaps he can get the majority of his hiccups out of the way before returning home.

He better win right away and have more than a 54% winning record or he won't be acceptable to be Nebraska's head coach when the job comes open. That is, if he wants the job by the time it opens up.

Well, I figured Frost would land a job after this season, but it's not going to be easy to have instant success. The last guy was fired because they couldn't win ONE game. Ouch. Granted, UCF is in a pretty talent-rich recruiting area, but it will have to take 3-4 years for that team to turn around. Best of luck to him, and I also see this as a great intermediate step before coming back to Nebraska.

Everyone, including Benning, can have a point of view as to whether he wants to come back to Nebraska or not. I haven't heard him speak publicly about it, so until then, it's all speculation. I just know that I hope it works out because he is a local guy, he knows success, he's had influence from some of football's greatest minds (Walsh, Osborne, Parcells, Belicheck, Gruden, and Kelly.) This is an amazing amount of exposure to an elite group of coaches.

This is true. 100%.

He was/is quite upset that he didn't get a sniff/interview being that he was an ex Husker and felt he had the resume to deserve a call.

I think it is a great starting job. Pretty easy to show improvement on 0-12, but at a place that has won, has better talent than this year's record would indicate, and that I think will provide enough support for success. Also, plenty of talent to compete at that level within walking distance of campus. Take 0-12 to 6-6 and then 9-3 and he will have ADs beating down the door.

This is true because Eichorst won't get a second chance to hire for the HC position. If Riley doesn't succeed, Eichorst and Riley will be looking for jobs. If Riley is successful, Scott won't be at UCF long enough to come to NU.

Here is the future potentials

Riley isn't successful. Gone within 2 years. New AD. Scott probably hasn't had time to turn around UCF from 0-12 into a winner yet. Is a 6-6 Scott Frost at UCF enough to land him a Nebraska job? Not sure.

Riley is successful and stays for 7+ more years. Langsdorf or Bray are prob his AHC and are in line to take it over. If Riley is still here in 5+ years we are winning and the fan base is happy. He prob gets to pick his groomed replacement.

Our timelines and Frosts probably don't match up really well right now. Smart for Scott to leave Oregon at this time. New QB next year. Tough to say if that staff is going to make it long term.

Timing is everything.

He has talent everywhere there. He needs to have them at 9 wins next year, or he is simply not an acceptable coach for Nebraska.

I have no inside information on Frost so I don't know if he ever wants to come back to Nebraska or not. There would be a tremendous amount of pressure on him coaching the Huskers. I remember the first time I saw Scott in a college uniform he was playing for Stanford against the Huskies. So he has shown in the past that he is willing to going elsewhere.

Harbaugh has had some success this year at Michigan, but most of the successful coaches that I can think of do not coach at their alma mater. Anyone aware of coaches that have found success at the college they played for? I am sure there are some but I just can't think of any.
