prob get named ninja II! what are they going to do,,,,ask the fans politely to not ring them during the plays? that's really worked so far. unless there is a serious penalty attached (IMO on the field..as in 15 yds, then 15 yds and loss of down) then as long as any artificial noise makers are allowed in they can't be controlled. i really don't care either way except that if schools can't bring in airhorns or thundersticks or whatever else makes noise then msu shouldn't be allowed to bring in the cowbells.i say letum all in. but if your ad gets this thru without clear notice of penalties for "abuse" then he's made all 11 other ad/s bend over and like it. LOL

Including your own and Mal Moore (strongly disapproves of any noisemakers)
I wonder if we had to move a game with Bama to get it done or something crazy.....

Penalty will not be on the field..it will be a financial one is what was just stated by SS.

to be able to pump in their fake music and cheers, and when the band can play, which is also considered artificial noisemakers. I'm not sure what changed here, unless they add penalties for ringing when in other times. I'm fine with the rule if it comes to pass like this.

Meaning no more hiding them to sneak them in..

monetary penalties look to be added and it is a one year trial basis.

and would also be consistent with this type of compromise, cowbells are switching in status from illegal artificial noisemakers to institutionally controlled noise (in the same category as the band and speakers). That would mean, I would presume, that MSU no longer has to collect them at the gates, but they do have to make an effort to control when they're used or pay a fine.

That's just my guess, though.

But if this passes the president the school is "going to educate" the fans on when the Cowbells can and cant be rung.
This will be a one year trial basis.
I would suspect if this fails..meaning fans do not follow the rules and we have to pay fine after fine..
when this comes up next year..Scott has no leg to stand on and the cowbells are really gone.

How many of you would honestly just ring them during those times during the game? The thing that makes the cowbell unique and fun is ringing it during plays to distract the other team. I'd rather leave mine at home if I'm only going to be able to ring it at "scheduled" times during the game.

our fans won't stop ringing them nor should they. Therefore, they will be banned aGAIN and we will still bring them.

and Im talking with no true idea if this would happen.
But I would think if we continue to ring whenever this season and it is revisited next off-season and banned entirely again
The school will have no action but to really step up and start taking them away in the stands and wherever they are seen..as the monetary penalties would continue or increase.

They are giving us a chance.. we get our tradition and dont have to hide it anymore...
Now we can be like the rest of the Nation and use hands, feet and voice at all the other moments like everyone else does.

Agree. Lets try not to <17> this up. This is could be our last/best shot at getting cowbells into football games.

this is exactly what will happen...and when they achieve 'banned' status they will be smuggled in and rung anyway...

Most people don't ring the bells during the plays because they are watching the play unfold (unless you're 5 years old)

Bands play songs right up to the snap of the ball (home team getting a first down or prior to an extra point comes to mind).

Huge win by Scott if you ask me.

I'd be cool w/ ringing it "responsibly." If the SEC recognizes it as a school tradition, I think it's only right to abide by the rules. However most fans won't feel the same, and the experiment will fail and return to the status quo.

So just ringing in between plays and during halftime should be fine right?

Halftime, really? Who cares about anything during halftime. I can't imagine wanting to ring a bell during halftime. Or cheer, or really anything except mix a drink and take a leak.

I could say it is an equalizer when compared to the TN, Bama, UF, Georgia...aw hell anyone but MSU, UM, and Vandys stadiums.
Purely due to the larger sizes of those stadiums.
But thats only our own fault we dont have as big of a stadium.

If Auburn is for it, then its very fishy. I really fear this is just a way to allow MSU to prove they cannot control the cowbells, and then come up with a super serious permanent ban next year.

Also on same Auburn Blog

There is a catch. The cowbells may be rattled only at appropriate times.
When is appropriate? During timeouts and other stoppages of play ...
when most schools play music or messages over their soundsystems.

If
league presidents approve the measure this afternoon, MSU's plan will
have a one-year trial. The issue will be revisited next year.

``I
think the general thought was we'll
give you a chance," MSU athletic director Scott Stricklin said.
``One of the parts of this proposal that's key is right now there's a
sunset clause on it that runs out next year. In other words, we have a
year to see if we can be responsible as a fan base. If we're
responsible, the league will address it and go from there and if we're
not, we'll take a different tack."

If refs called a 15 yd penalty every time cowbells were being rung, I would think that would put a stop to it. Monetary penalties aren't going to get fans to stop because they aren't the ones paying the fines.

If it's late in the game and Ole Miss has a 3rd and 7 and State gets called for a 15 yd. noise penalty, that might prevent it from occurring again.

If all this goes through, I'm curious to see the increase in the amount of cowbells that show up at games. For one, the fact that it will be legal to bring in cowbells and no one has to worry about hiding them will increase the population of them and secondly, the fact that this whole issue has really grown legs has really publicized the cowbell and individuals that didn't really think or care about bringing bells to previous games will jump on the bell bandwagon. There will definitely be a hefty increase in the amount of cowbells that are brought to games should this proposal go through; how that affects when people ring them and potential fines that will ensue... I think we all know the answer to that.

The student section, especially, is not going to stop ringing the bells during play. And honestly i think its dumb if you think this will actually happen. Hats off to Stricklin for getting this one year deal, but forgive me if im wrong but doesnt state already pay a fine to the SEC every year for the cowbells? I understand that the reason for the fine will change from having them at all to using them during the game but its not going to matter one way or the other, well still pay the fine. Next year they will get banned and it will go back to the way it has been for the foreseeable future.

getting snookered is no surprise.LOL. personally i think he's done a pretty good overall job. IMO IF they want to control the noise issue...cowbells or whatever...there will have to be an onfield penalty. it would take a backbreaking fine to make any difference even to the admin and for sure the fans could care less.. if they can control them like the bands i don't care but we should for sure let every school have their artificial noisemakers of choice...we could rattle the ice in our mint julips....................

and that brings up another point not only with this passing will cowbells be more abundant for you wont have to hide them
BUT THE SCHOOL can SERIOUSLY PROMOTE it... Last Year was the first year we tried to with the more cowbell skit but having to cut away from saying cowbell and such..
This year will be full blown bring it and ring it..we need more cowbell!!!

And as you say the students will try to rebel as always so expect more security watching and if you dont follow the rules the bell will be taken or you will be asked to leave would be my guess
if the fines become a problem.
