I think it's because theMississippi Bearshave someone who is out recruting againstthem for a change. I love Polk for the good years but that SOB got lazy his last five years and when hefinally gotrun off his departure made him look like a ***. He lost a lot of respect with his departure. All these folks who are against Cohenare Polk loyalist who has not realize how ****** of a recruiter he had become. He spent way too much time whining about the number of scholarship allowed. In my opinion he was right but he was wrong with the all theneglecting to the program to pursue his whining. It became obsession and he sounded like a cry baby to the rest of the collegiate baseball world.

14 months minimum, longer if an NCAA invite comes along within that time period. And I'm not confident of that at present. On a related note, anyone know what the present terms of Cohen's contract are? Is he in the third year of the initial 4 year deal, or has it been extended? If it hasn't, do you let him enter the 4th year next year without an extension if this year flops like it appears that it may?

Anyone who actually thinks Cohen should be fired as of right now doesn't deserve the privilege of Internet access.

Don't exactly agree with that. I like Cohen alot and want him to succeed and be at MSU for a long time but if this year takes a turn for the worst like our last two seasons then I will definitely begin to have some questions. This year is a long way from over and an NCAA bid is far from a lock.

we just aren't going head to head on a ton of guys.

But Bianco's classes of 10,11, and 12 are really strong.

He just committed the top 2 players in Louisiana. He'll probably never see them though. And one of the studs from last year's class had a major arm injury his senior year. I guess he wanted to beat Bianco to the punch.

Polk's last 5 seasons- we were LAST in the SEC- LAST in the sport of SEC baseball- in top 10 round draft picks

yet Cohen should suddenly be a contender for the SEC title after 2 recruiting classes? There is a reason its taking a little longer for the turnaround- we 17'ing sucked when he got here</p>

was a bust with the exception of Stratton.

But it APPEARS pitching is getting better. 5 of 7 SEC losses we've allowed 4 runs or fewer. We are bringing in some good arms in this class.

It shouldn't really surprise anyone we don't hit. While it was cool to say that the seniors were "cancers" and were sabotoging the team, they were 5 of our best 7 hitters. This should be no surprise. The only mystery is why Vickerson sucks this year.

to John's first class sucking (which I agree with), do you think his being hired so late in the process attributed to this?

are ranked about where ours are- in fact some of Cohen's are actually rated slightly higher.

I actually wish we would look at Louisiana a little more. We focus a lot on Alabama and Georgia because Butch is very familiar with that area, which is not a bad thing at all- Daryl Norris, Trevor Fitts, Daniel Garner, and we are likely to get Chase Domino from there as well. And then we've gotten Adam Frazier and Evan Mitchell from Georgia.

I don't think that wanting to not be the worst team in the SEC everyyear is asking too much. No one....I mean no one expects us to even be near the top of the SEC right now. This year we are drastically improved and I hope it keeps going but the last several years have wrecked my confidence in our baseball teams. We could just as easily win 5 games the rest of the way and it would not surprise me.

It is a bit troubling thatour young guys (ie Cohen's recruits) aresuch poor hitters.

and in some respects injuries have hurt. But then there are some mysteries like the pitchers from AL who have not been a factor for various reasons. Im not necessarily blaming it all on him or the assts.

When you sign near 20 guys, there are a lot of factors that lead to a class that's a bust.

most of the high school recruits like Bradford, Norris, and Frazier are hitting reasonably well for freshmen.

No **** Sherlock. We are only 12 games into the SEC schedule and could still easily miss out on Hoover again. Hell our basketball team was projected to be in the tournament once too.

I hope we can keep it going but the late swoon of last year is still in my head. The fact that we scored 2 runs since last Friday is a bit concerning too.

we had a grand total of 6 SEC wins. Right now we have five. And this is through the front half of our SEC schedule, which is tougher than our last half. Our hitting has been streaky all year- I don't see that changing- but some of it is the fact that we went up against two top five teams in the country in SEC play. And we took one game from both of them, which is respectable. One of the guys that beat us in SEC play is projected as a top five draft pick (Gray of Vandy), we lost to a guy from Florida that was a first round pick last year in Whitson, and the other two guys that beat us for Vandy and Florida are also going to be picked pretty high in the draft. On top of that, we also lost to Palzonne from Georgia who is a darn good pitcher. We also managed to beat Florida's ace and Vandy's closer.

And right now, UAB is on the bubble of making the tournament- this is not a bad loss, especially on the road.

The bottom line on this team is they are average, and the most promising players are the freshmen. What is going to happen is these freshmen who are already our most consistent guys in general, are going to get more and more experience, and they are going to get better and better- much like our pitchers from last year. But as for now, we are a scrappy team that plays hard, and teams like that will win their share of games- as we have done this year. But, we'll also lose some games- especially against teams that have better talent than we do. But when we get to the point where we're not playing a lot of freshmen and we're playing mainly juniors and seniors and the underclassmen that are playing are instant impact type guys, then we will compete for championships, which isn't that far off. As far as UAB- we really don't have a legit midweek starter yet because we still lack pitching depth even though it has gotten better. We might as well just start Pollerena and let him go five and then go with Caleb Reed for four during quality midweek teams.

My hope for this year is to at the very least make a regional- we do not have to make the SEC Tournament to do that, but if we do make the SEC Tournament, that would be awesome and get these freshmen postseason experience and just do the best we can with it.
