4th in the rating and pecking order. Scout and the 247 Network are the best, then it is a toss up between Rivals and ESPN. Rivals has really gone down hill and especially now that character is one of the rating criteria.

It's all about selling subscriptions and pandering to your audience. Wouldn't surprise me at all if 50% of the recruits in Mississippi NEVER get looked at in person and then graded by a meatballbeat writer.<div>
</div><div>Rivals supposedly takes into consideration talent, personality, grades, and other stuff. </div><div>
</div><div>Keep in mind people like Fancy and Rosebowl have damn near free reign to go into their profiles and grade them how ever they wish. Whenever you use the word "Scout", just replace that with "Gene" and think about question you asked.</div><div>
</div><div>Unfortunatelythere is no unbiased 3rd party that does this ****. You have to wait till Saturdays in the Fall to get the real grade.</div>

those recruiting sites penalize players who don't commit to the huge name schools. Several times players lost stars when they decommited from Bama or didn't academically qualify.

Keith Neihbur (sp) came to Big Dawg Camp and mentioned how he hadn't even been to the State in 20 years. A whole lot has changed in High School Football in 20 years in Mississippi. They rely heavily on the local 'scouts' to do the heavy lifting and they basically just look at offers from the big schools. Toward signing day all the national guys then do their 're-evaluating'.

It's not hard to understand that their business is more about selling subscriptions than it is actual talent evaluation.

ESPN also has Isaac Gross an OM committ ranked as the 36th best player regardless of position and the #3 DT. 66 spots ahead of Quay. Scout has Isaac as a 3*** and the 39th best DEFENSIVE TACKLE!! So whose full of ****?

If Gross is the #3 DT in the country, then our center commit, Desper, is the #2 center in the country, because a week or two ago he pushed Gross around all night.

from people who don't know much more about how to evaluate a player than the average poster on this board. Recruiting rankings are at best a very rough idea of how recruiting really went. However, maybe Rivals in on the right track making character one of the rating criteria. A 5-star player you're going to have to kick off the team in 18 months isn't as good a recruit as a 3-star who'll be with you for 5 years.

Don't tell Rival subscribers that. They will literally call for a mutiny. <div>
</div><div>But I think it does have some credence. But its also damn tough to predict whether someone will get kicked off a team/qualify or not. In my eyes, thats like professional rumor mongering. </div>

I'd be curious to know if any of these scouting services have developed grading rubrics. I've always imagined its people just giving it their best guess.

There is a 5 minute video of their national guy (Scott Kennedy) breaking down a video of Quay Evans.

It's all subjective from the view and position of the evaluator. If Gene thinks we are going to get the recruit then he will be rated higher by him..
<span style="font-weight: bold;">Who do you trust to evaluate high school players, Gene or Dan?? </span>
I will go with the College coach all day, every day..

and I want him bad at OM, but hes not even playing in the AA game. No way a top 10 player in the country gets skipped out of the AA game unless a lot of people disagree with Scout's ranking and agree more with rivals or ESPN's

But I'm not ready to go out and say he's going to be an All-SEC player for us. The simple fact is, he's got some question marks in the character department. He looks a lot like some of the guys UM has signed in recent years. Some of those worked out real good and some were a wasted scholarship.

have their issues but I feel confident if our staff didn't feel they could work with them they would have gone in a different direction.

we are finally staring to get quality depth so if Evans/James or whoever don't work out we won't let them hang around and disrupt chemistry, we will just cut them and move on with what we have

That is what sticks out to me so much about our staff ...have a backup and don't take any **** ...buy in or get out
