I too just don't see it in the cards for Vrank to get any PT other than as insurance for an injury. (knock on wood)
With Jefferson back, and Jeter making a leap, count out next year.

That gives him 2 more years, and K will obviously be landing some more 5 star big men in that stretch. Again hope I am wrong, but seems like it be a numbers game of too many people in front of him, much like Olyk Czyz.
Same here...

He couldn't use the traditional redshirt, but if the medical condition is legit they could try to get the medical waiver/redshirt.
He played @ GT in February, our 22nd game. He's not eligible for a redshirt of any kind.

Capel did give him burn at Ga Tech...Was glad to see him get a shot that nite even though he struggled..That nite also was Jeter's initial good outing against ACC competition.

Man I would rather develop our bigs and no land Bolden, I believe that Jeter/Obi and Vrank can be decent next year for Duke. Over the summer work on rebounding, post up moves, and playing tough defense. And can one of them give me some shot blocking ability lol. I think Duke will be fine with Giles, Jefferson, Jeter, Obi and Vrank coach K just needs to trust them and play them.

To your point I do think our bigs from bench next year (This year's Plumlee's Helpers I like to say) can have impact. Proven yeaterday w/both Jete/Big "O" and Jete had already shown glimpses of busting out earlier....

Remember when K used to give players a chance to develop on the court? Like back in 2005, when he gave Patrick Johnson a chance (finally!)? He left Johnson wasting away on the bench for his first two seasons after not even allowing him to walk-on as a freshman. But then in '04-'05 he finally gave Johnson a chance and in the final regular season game, he had an offensive rebound at UNC. You think Johnson snares that rebound if all he'd been doing was practicing? No way! It was his 3 minutes vs St. John's (w/ an assist!) and his 6 minutes vs GT (2 rebounds!) that prepared him for that offensive rebound against UNC. It's too bad K has become so set in his ways and the game has passed him by,

Back to back poor trips at both ends of court in limited time...Did you see game?

So the 2 (essentially 3) on 1 break he was left with was his s fault? Lol you're reaching, badly. I saw the game, and he was fine considering he was left hanging on more than one occasion.

Three second call on one end offensively...hey Crank I am on your side dude....I have trumpeted Vrank ever since he signed w/the good ole Blue and White...

I just didnt think he looked good, and dont you think K would have gotten him more burn had he thought he looked better???

Guess you've missed the part where the kid is struggling with injury; the 3 sec call was bogus, even the announcers were questioning it.

He was fine given the situation. To say he struggled is a reach IMO.

I'm laughing because now someone else, besides me, knows what it's like having a conversation with that guy. I feel your pain from pounding your head against a wall.

With Jefferson likely to return next year, I'm really not too concerned about our post play. I really don't think Jeter is that far off from being a very solid 5 man, and Jefferson can certainly handle the position competently against most college 5s. Combine that with Giles at the 4 -- which from a defensive / rebounding perspective is a huge upgrade around the rim over Ingram, and Tatum at the 3 -- replacing Matt Jones / Kennard at the 3, I really don't think next year's squad will too many issues inside if we can stay healthy. And, obviously, I think it's encouraging that Obi was able to give us some solid minutes against ND. If he can become a reliable deep bench player (e.g., foul issues, short-term injury), I think we should have more than enough inside to be an excellent overall team.

Obviously it helps that our 1-4 is going to be absolutely loaded -- frankly even without Grayson. Next year's team may not quite have the star potential of the 14-15 team b/c of Giles' injury, but it does have about as much -- if not more -- overall talent. Without Grayson, that team will be a very strong final four / NC favorite entering next season. With Grayson, we're talking about a team that will be expected to be on the level of Duke's best teams ever.

Like Jeter/Obi as well sir! I was just curious w/Jefferson,Giles,Tatum along front (LIKE IT) who do you see at 1 and 2?? Personally I see DT making quantum leap and improving his outside J at the point....Creates interesting 2 competition (Luke/Matt/possibly FJ?)...Basing this on GA departing....

Maybe this was due to injury, but during the GT game when Vrank did see some minutes, he was moving very awkwardly.
I tend to always watch big men and see how they run, step, and jump. And honestly, the way he ran and moved around looked painful.
Again, maybe this was due to injury, and maybe he was very nervous being inserted into a game on the road, also remember that was a MUST WIN game.

'Twas a Huge game, and probably somewhat of a surprise for Vrank since he hadnt been in the rotation for whatever reason...

I HATE the idea of playing 2 bigs because it kills our offense.
However, if we were to meet Baylor in the 2nd round, I believe we need to play 2 bigs at least 5-10 minutes together.
They are one of the few teams where I find this completely necessary.
Hope Obi and Chase are ready to hit the glass!!

They are really coming off their best collective outings of the year...With a week under K to get ready I expect both to play w/confidence!

When Obi was on the court he looked so big and strong. It's just so hard to believe with the rebounding numbers he put up at Rice that he is not productive so it does lead me to believe that he has some injury issues or out of shape issues or both. I really wish him well and maybe next year he can come into his own. He came to Duke because he wanted to be part of it. He could have been a big fish in a small pond at Rice. Now he really has his work cut out for him. From his body language on the bench I don't think he is a pouter. Time will tell I guess. OFC

TOS speculates that Obi is going to take a medical retirement. Does anyone have any info about this?

I haven't heard it's that deep....but when I was in town for the Virginia game I was told he's never going to be able to handle the strains of Duke basketball. I didn't necessarily know what means but your comment now makes sense.

I cannot speak to the injury theories at all.
However, I find it unbelievable that he can still be out of shape. He has been here for almost 2 FULL years now. Heck, I would be in top-notch shape with 2 full years in the Duke program.
And I agree, it definitely seems like he wants to be here. And he showed a glimpse of his strength in the ND ACC game, he moved whoever he wanted to, we need that this weekend for sure!

Can anybody say what specifically happened to Obi's knees? I'm saddened to hear these things

Our ceiling drops significantly if Obi is playing over Kennard. Actually, more than significantly....
Agree w/DukieJay...Luke's slumped a bit last few, but hes just as apt to knock down 15-20 pts...When we have Grayson, Brandon, Luke and/or Matt on from perimeter and MP3 solid inside our "ceiling" really goes to max!!!
