I wish they would rotate the football championship game between the two as well. Just rotate it year to year.

This is dumber than the ACC playing their football championship game in Jacksonville and Tampa, instead of Charlotte.

And that's saying something.

Whoever made this decision should be fired.

I'll bet the biggest reason for the slow ticket sales are two reasons not related to location: 1) only a couple teams are having NCAA tourney type seasons, therefore most fanbases aren't as excited about this year's tourney, and 2) Kentucky in particular looks to be heading to the NIT.

Their fans are the primary driver of SEC tourney ticket sales. UK is having a down year, so SEC tourney ticket sales will be down.

They really should just play the tourney in Lexington to make it simpler. Seriously, Atlanta is definitely a good site for it. Nashville is as well. I don't like New Orleans as much, but it's a good site.

"I'm sure (Tampa is) great," Kennedy said. "Who doesn't want to go to South Florida in March? I think we all are looking forward to that."

Tampa is in the central part of the state. And who cares if it was in a hot tropical destination or if it was freezing cold..you're playing basketball! You're only going to be spending time in the inside of your hotel and a basketball arena. Wait...nevermind.

We should give Andy a pass on not realizing Tampa isn't in South Florida. Hell, the morons that named USF couldn't figure it out either.

They thought FSU would be playing Miami as often as not in the championship game. What they really need to do is rotate their championship game between the winners of the two divisions and not have a pre-set site for the game. Their conference is too spread out geographically.

Women's tourney in North Little Rock, Ark. Men's tourney in Tampa, FL.

Fayetteville and Miami weren't available?

a team in the tournament spends outside of the hotel and the arena? Shootarounds, games, watching the other teams and resting/eating/meeting at the hotel...how much time does that leave? My main point was that the SEC should not be looking for a warm climate to play in, but a centrally located one. The fact that your coach is an idiot is just a bonus.

Miami doesn't even sell out their own stadium.

FSU will travel well enough if they're in the game - regardless of the location.

VT will travel. Just not to Florida twice every year - ACC Champ game, Gator Bowl (Jacksonville), Orange Bowl (ACC BCS Tie-In).

Any other team makes the Championship game (outside of Clemson), and they won't bring big numbers to Florida.

That game will sell out in Charlotte in two years and it would have sold out every year if it was played in Charlotte from the start.

It was a stupid decision.

...if you triangulate all SEC school locations. The furthest team is the University of Florida, and that isn't such a great distance from Gainesville. Further, it is a great city to visit and party. UK, UM, MSU, Vandy, UT, and Alabama are all convenient and within 4-5 hours drive, with Auburn maybe 6. The only schools a distance away are LSU, USC, UF, UGA and Arkansas, but they are all reasonable. Arkansas has the greatest distance to travel to Tampa. It is a long two day drive unless you fly.

Normally you could throw Memphis in there, but not anymore. Now that CUSA is a Memphis only conference, they're basically guaranteed to host the CUSA tourney every year from here until Memphis goes into another conference. I've heard rumors that some of the non-Memphis CUSA tourney games have drawn less than 100 fans, but they have to have the tourney in Memphis, because Memphis's fans are the only ones that will come no matter the locale.

or at least until the tourney goes to tulsa in 2010. i would assume, though, that the tourney will go back to memphis after they see the ticket sales/attendance in tulsa.

Shows how much I pay attention to CUSA basketball. And yes, I fully expect the tourney to return to Memphis as quickly as possible after they lose money on the thing.

if tulsa can draw some fans, then c-usa may look at having the tourney there or even moving it around a bit. but if it flops (which seems likely), then it'll be back to memphis.</p>
