SEC Network on Dish

I suppose we're all wondering what the SEC Network will cost us when it's available.

I just got an email from the SEC Network, talking about which providers have agreed to carry SECN, with a link to Dish's current offers. I clicked that, and it seems for new subscribers, they have 3 levels of service (based on how many channels you want), and all 3 say the SEC Network is included.

Whether that means that current Dish subscribers (like me) will get the network free of additional charge, I can't say but obviously hope it will. It might be a good opportunity for some of you that are thinking of changing providers.

Won't affect SEC TV however.

Prices will skyrocket, similar to SiriusXM. That's a different story, but people are paying wildly different amounts for their service, based simply on threatening to cancel and negotiating a cost.

Yeah, Dish and DirecTV would not be allowed to merge without some serious payout to whoever the 3rd guy is.

If the Comcast/Time Warner merger is approved that would put them at 33 million tv & 32 million internet subscribers.

As I've been saying for awhile, it'll be on the base tier all across the southeast -- meaning basically anyone that gets ESPN will get the SECNetwork. It'll be more dicey outside of the SEC footprint as to the placement on sports tiers, etc...

It's going to cost you an extra $1.30/month basically. That's what the charge is to Dish -- which they will obviously pass on to customers.

It's almost time to start getting excited about it. I look for ESPN/SEC to get viewership numbers back -- and really turn up the baseball programming in year 2. I expect to see baseball programming at least 6 days a week on it after March Madness in the future. Just way more people to tune in to it vs other spring sports. Was a bit surprised by the low inventory in year 1(I think 75 games overall)...

The SEC doesn't have to basically give the product away. The country wants to watch the best games -- and ESPN will have full levity to put them on the SECNetwork as often as they see fit...outside of the CBS game...

Yes but Comcast/TW still has competitors in the market even after a merger. Dish/directv would be all alone. And I know people point to Sirius/XM but they made the argument that neither would survive without a merger and that was pretty much true. Dish and Directv are both very viable and profitable companies.

Yeah, I get it on my extended tier on uVerse(I've got LHN too)...

I think the B1G goes for $0.05 or $0.10 outside of their footprint now...
