Don't know if y'all saw this but Kentucky sent a 2014 HS AA 115 handwritten letters in 1 day. http://network.yardbarker.com/autho...1&mailing_id=2263&sport_name=college_football

It seems as if all the schools are doing these crazy tactics. Being a reasonable adult it's easy to scoff at 115 letters or 400 Facebook messages but it seems as if the kids like it. If the kids aren't willing to write it off as superficial, we shouldn't either. MSU seems to drag its feet on a lot of things but I wish we wouldn't here. Hire a few GA's whose sole purpose is to twitter DM, Facebook message, and hand write hundreds of letters to everyone. Someone needs to show these sensitive HS croots "the love" [gag,cough,etc...]

So No. 1 I thought only position coaches could communicate with recruits? I may be completely wrong here but I cannot imagine how a coach would have this kind of time. 2nd, did all the letters say the same thing? I'm sure they are some type of form letter but how many versions of it could they possibly have?

They probably ...

have an intern or lowly employee scrawl them out and the one of the coaches signs them. That would only take a few minutes of the coach's time.

I'm jut tryin to figure out how "special" you would feel if you got 115 letters that said the same thing from the same person. I would think whoever sent them was an idiot for not having better software than that....One thing to get 2 that are the same but 115? I would not be impressed but maybe as an 18 year old I would be?

I think you'll see Stoops bring UK Football up to speed in many of ways Franklin has at Vandy and Mullen at MSU. No idea how he'll fare with on the field decisions, but I expect UK to start landing top 25/boarderline Top 25 classes.

Which sucks, btw..

Especially for us since they're our permanent opponent and that they like recruiting Mississippi

Not only are we far behind in this area, when we do try something we usually just do something stupid. We've got to get a lot better at this or we're going to get left behind.

Even at 18, after reading a couple and finding them basically the same, I'd toss them without even opening them. To me, it'd be right up there with credit card offers and "You've Won ...." junk mail.

Us as fans must embrace the power of social media and learn to market it better. Our brand is growing but we must be less conservative and get in line with the times. By using better means of advertising.... something outside of the box....something 21 century. "From whom does the bell tole?" It sounds as if it was recorded by a Kindergarten/Sunday school teacher....muffled and in a garage.

Dating & Recruiting

It seems as if all the schools are doing these crazy tactics. Being a reasonable adult it's easy to scoff at 115 letters or 400 Facebook messages but it seems as if the kids like it. If the kids aren't willing to write it off as superficial, we shouldn't either. MSU seems to drag its feet on a lot of things but I wish we wouldn't here. There's quite a few similarities between dating and recruiting. In both instances, the initiating party is trying to coerce the other that can fulfill all the target's expectations and more.

These letters are a good way to start the dialog, i.e. get the target's attention. But then what?

Here's an analogy: A guy sends a girl 100 roses. The girl says that she would like to meet the guy. What does she feel when she opens the door and finds that the guy is Screech (Dustin Diamond)? Is she still enamored by the act? Will she still look at the relationship objectively? What happens when A.C. Slater (Mario Lopez) shows up the next night? Is she impressed by either his material possessions (car, house, clothes, etc.) or his non-material abilities (job, education, gift of gab, social status among his peers, etc.)?

In other words, as learned from the movie Big Daddy, "initiating the conversation is half the battle." But I add to that, after the first strike, you'd better be prepared for a war.
