If season ended today we’d be the 9 seed opening against 16 South Carolina. Winner would play 8 seed Kentucky.

The expanded league means more teams playing on Wednesday than in the past. You want to be in the Top 8 to avoid having to play an extra game. We are currently tied with Kentucky for 8th but they have the tiebreaker, so need to finish +1 on them the rest of the way.

We are a game behind Tennessee and OM who are tied for 6th, and two games ahead of 10th (Vandy and Texas).

Bye or not, we don’t have a chance in hell of winning the SEC tournament, and I’m totally fine with that. Couldn’t care less about our seed. Just get to 9-9 or 10-8 in the regular season so that we get a Top 5-6 seed, and we’re good. NBA mentality for most SEC teams this year….just get to the playoffs, or in this case, the NCAA tournament.

Based on remaining schedules, I think there’s a good chance we jump ole miss and UK to finish 7th
Ole Miss had their bye this week but have to play at Vandy, at Auburn, OU, Tennessee, and at Florida to finish the season. Woof.

Kentucky has at Bama, at OU, Auburn, LSU, and at Mizzou.

I haven’t really paid attention tot the format, but to win the SECT you’d have to expect 3 consecutive max effort games like we had against Kentucky and OM round 1, then possibly turn around and potentially play a first round NCAA game on Thursday? If so seems like the SEC baseball tournament, play a couple to stay in sync and go home and rest.

Yeah, with us having the tiebreaker against Ole Miss, I see us catching up a game and getting the higher seed. For Kentucky, I also see us catching up a game.

I don’t expect us to pass UT though because their schedule is easier and they have the tiebreaker

I don’t care so much about winning it but I don’t want us having to play a meaningless game against South Carolina or LSU and risk our seeding being hurt or someone getting injured. I think avoiding a Wednesday game and getting in the Top 8 is a reasonable goal.

Of note, everyone has talked all year about LSU and SC being the bottom two…. SC obviously still in last but Oklahoma has fallen behind LSU in the standings now. We can just about sink their NCAAT chances if we win in Norman on Saturday.

That’s a fair point. I’m still one who is of the opinion that the committee doesn’t look too heavily at the conference tournament results, unless you go on a major run before Selection Sunday. Beat 3 good teams Thurs, Fri, Sat….yeah, it helps you. Go 0-1 or 1-1, I don’t think it really matters that much in the grand scheme of things….especially if you are a lock already.

4-1 is not unrealistic, and it's what we really need to do to push our seeding back to the 4/5 line. Heck, a 3 seed is not unfathomable if we finish 4-1 and make a decent run in the SECT. However, we may Mississippi State it up and go 2-3 or something to make sure we get that 8/9 seed in the NCAAT. That is also not unfathomable. :ROFLMAO:

We will pass UK and OM in standings, there schedule is too difficult down the stretch. We are battling A&M, Mizz, UT, and MSU for the 4th through 7th spot.

"4-1 is not unrealistic, and it's what we really need to do to push our seeding back to the 4/5 line"
We are already on the 5 line, if we finish 4-1 we are looking at 3 or 4 seed. I know y'all can't accept that but I been telling it since November.

Being 8th is great for avoiding a Wednesday game with USC but it also means playing Auburn on Friday if we win Thursday.

If we can work our way into 7th, then it's the 15/10 winner on Thursday, so maybe Vandy, then the 2 seed Bama or Florida on Friday. Being 6th would be similar with perhaps Arkansas/Texas on Thursday then Bama/Florida.

Still a lot of positioning left to go. And a lot of tiebreakers to be determined.

There is an outside chance we could finish as high as 4th and get the coveted double bye but it’s going to require at least a 4-1 finish and a lot of help from teams in front of us losing multiple times.

I’d be fine with a bye, win & lose. Not a big fan of playing 3 games in 3 days right before the NCAA tournament.

That's cool. I'm glad you've been telling "us" that since November, but we were on the 7 or 8 line earlier this week, before we beat A&M. And that's according to the bracket matrix, which includes every expert in the industry, instead of one random message board genius with no credentials. Forgive me if I chose to believe the experts and was not aware of what random-guy was "telling me".

Regardless, we sit at a 6 right now, but a lot of brackets that have updated since the A&M game do have us on the 5 or 6 line, so you're not necessarily off. I still think that if we go 4-1, we're on the 4/5 line, since this is a pretty weak last 5 games. Although you vehemently disagree with me, apparently, you are only thinking we are 1 seed line higher (3/4 instead of 4/5). Seems like we both agree we may be a 4 seed with a 4-1 finish. So...

NOPE, sit at a 5, bracket matrix doesn't update live.

Missouri's win over Alabama last night made the probablity of us being a Top 4 seed less than 1%.

If we go 5-0 and chalk happens, we will be the 5 seed but would need Tennessee to lose 2 they shouldnt to move up.

Behold, the SEC Basketball Tiebreaker Tool:

This is the SEC Tournament bracket with the best chance statistically of happening:

It's crazy that "a pretty weak last 5" still currently includes 3 quad 1 games and a quad 2 game that's 5 NET places away from also being Quad 1.

Over half of MSUs games (16) may end up in Quad 1. I wonder what the record is.

Kentucky still has to play at Bama, at Mizzou, and Auburn at home. So I feel pretty good about our chances of passing them.

OU is really scary for us. They have several guys who shoot the 3 well. They don't shoot it a ton, making around 8/game, but we've all seen that before.
@Bama is very likely a loss.

Arkansas is a great matchup for us. Texas is a decent match-up too, I think we win those.

LSU has 2 guys that can bury the 3. If we guard those 2 well, and play like we should, that should be a win. 3-2 should be the minimum expectation for us.
