SECE is AU's biggest obstacle to the BCS Champ game

An SEC team in the BCS Champ game is going to require a boost from the SEC Champ game. The SEC Champ game offers an extra win, over a high quality team, for the SEC champion who needs to leapfrog a PAC10, Big10, or BBC (BSC Buster Conference) team in the final polls. Teams from the aforementioned conference don't have the advantage of playing a 13th game prior to bowl games, and much less against a quality opponent.

But this year if Auburn (currently the highest ranked SEC team), wins out they could be in the SEC Champ game with a 3-loss SECE team. A win there might not be enough to leapfrog any pretenders ahead of them in the polls.

They are much more likely to lose to either of those than to go undefeated and get left out (again). The SEC East thing would be a big problem for a 1-loss SEC West team though.

AU could win those games and still face the problem I described. The polls aren't going to let any SEC team leapfrog other undefeateds.

I think Bama will beat them. I dont see Auburn as a team that is unstoppable. They have played very well the last few weeks, but if you can keep Newton in the pocket, they can be beaten.

I think LSU and Bama have good enough D's to make that happen.

Are you saying that Auburn would not be undefeated? <div>
</div><div>Day after edit: You don't think an SEC undefeated wouldn't leapfrog three of these four: Oregon, Boise State, Oklahoma, TCU?</div>

I'm saying if AU wins out, it might not be enough. In previous years, that situation would be enough because the SEC Champ game provides a W against a highly ranked team - and in that case a 13-0 SEC team leapfrogs as 12-0 team standing in the way of a BCS Champ game birth. But not this year.

This year the SEC East is weak enough that a 13th win there might not gain the winner much street cred.

Is there that big of a difference in beating a top 10 East team in Atlanta and beating a top 10 Bama team the last week of the season? Auburn will get their shots, they are just in regular season games. If they are undeafeted, they'll be #1 in the computers and they'll jump enough teams to get as high as they need to be in the polls.<div>
</div><div>Just looking at the Coaches' Poll, Oklahoma jumped TCU this week after thumping Iowa State. Nebraska jumped TCU the week before after beating KState. And you're telling me if Auburn beats LSU this weekend they won't do the same? Doubtful.</div>

would jump over an undefeatedTCU and undefeated Boise St. due to SOS regardless of the record of the SECE champion...

the SEC needs either Oregon or Oklahoma to lose to get into the BCSCG.
