Secondary vs Pavia

Any concerns here?

We saw VaTech receivers getting open but were fortunate that passes were poorly thrown or dropped.

Early on against SC State, their QB was killing on us 3rd and long, converting on three 3rd and 8 plays on three consecutive drives with passes of 25, 13 and 38 yards. D settled in after that and forced several 3 and outs on the ensuing drives. But Pavia is hitting on 74.4% of his passes so far this year, so I have some concerns about our secondary going into this game. He's also 5.5 ypc in each game.

We were fortunate against VaTech that passes were poorly thrown or dropped and our talent advantage eventually came to bear with SC State, but Pavia is a legit threat.

Do we know anything about Kilgore yet?

I watched our games and the Virginia Tech - Vandy game, so yea I have concerns. They are coming off a great second half of football.

This reminds me of 2007, when we barely beat a horrible 2-4 UNC team 21-15 and were # 6, and then the next week got beat by Vandy. Vandy had played UGA really well the week prior in Athens in 2007.

We will need the crowd to do its deal and throw Vandy off Saturday night, get some turnovers, some false starts, Pavia is the real deal and inspires that team to play well above their talent, imho, so we will need to cause a lot negative plays by them

Hopefully we see more expansion in the play calling by Shula.

Sometimes in the Beamer era, they come out and are a completely different better team then the week before, hopefully this is the case Saturday night.

I’ve always felt Vanderbilt’s achilles heel has been that they didn’t believe they could win; they historically had some pretty decent players but when you got them down they’d just start going through the motions for the rest of the game. This coach they have now has them believing, he’s a good one; one of the few I’d rather have than Beamer right now. They have some plays that are concerning and will try to exploit what will probably be our aggressiveness in the secondary, like floating a back or te out on a late wheel. I still like us though; I think our dl and backers are going to make themselves known to their qb.

Just calling it like I see it, The secondary is my 2nd least concern. They're fine. Not worried about them or special teams.

I saw the SC State game and if I'm being totally honest, I felt like we were trying our best to not hurt them on Defense. At least as far as their WR's and passing game. We were playing super, super soft coverage - on purpose IMHO - we just wanted to get the win and get off the field and we did that. Plus, in the VT game, several of their completions were dang near impossible catches that they made anyway. When I watched the replays of those catches, I had no real gripes... played it about as well as we could have played it and they still made the catch. So, I'm not worried about the secondary.

The offense and Beamers continued sugar coating of the elephant in the room (OL) is extremely concerning to me.

Football is an aggressive and violent sport. The minute you turn that off you lose your edge.

I took it to mean we just wanted to get the win and get off the field, like he said. And I agree; there is nothing to be gained in this type game, only loss.
