Seems new regime learned many "valuable" lessons from the old one...

Tail no longer wags the dog with the new department. Interesting that the previous group ever let that happen - particularly since that "tail" had already poked them in the eye twice. Pretty negligent IMO.

That was a very good read Ghost. Thanks for linking it.

What is apparent is the new sherrif in town is going to enjoy more control over his coaches, and that oversight is needed in order to keep every single employee in the athletic department compliant with NCAA rules.

Go CARDS!!!

Great article. I love almost everything Tom Jurich did for the university but his approach to coaches contracts was almost negligent. In particular after the Sypher scandal, TJ extended and enhanced Pitino’s contract and after the Powell sanctions, he did nothing to provide further protections for the university. His fiduciary duty was to protect the university instead he protected his coach. And of course, his contract with Petrino was essentially UofL bidding against UofL. It made no sense.

Can’t argue.

F.....why did I give this crap a click?
Good question. I can only assume because you were curious about what it said. Now I’m curious - which part of it or what about it made the article “crap” in your estimation?

So odd that Jurich would open up the university’s wallet and expose it to unnecessary risk with the Pitino and Petrino contracts. Worse yet - in the case of Pitino he essentially negotiated against himself and in the case of Petrino, he negotiated against nobody. And then after completely exposing the university in these ways, to maintain so little oversight? Hard to describe it other than negligent.

It unfortunately but absolutely, tarnished his legacy.

TJ and Pitino were going to retire at the same time. ( according to Pitino ) Just happened eight years earlier than they expected.

And they both didn’t get what they really wanted - placing their kiddos in their spots on the way out the door!
