Per report in the The State. Of course, his father did not name the school involved.
Sellers is good. Not $8 million good, though.
This stuff is insane.

Money does that to everything - it can make life insane if you let it!Per report in the The State. Of course, his father did not name the school involved.

I guess I should add the clarification that I don't think ANY player in college is worth $4 million/year. If you're investing that much in a single college player, it would be catastrophic failure not to win the title.Hush your mouth!
Tampering you say?
If what we saw in the bowl game is the kind of tutelage he's going to receive from Shula, then Sellers should have taken the money.Per report in the The State. Of course, his father did not name the school involved.

Ehh Shula was calling another person plays and was changing personnel after every play because of it.If what we saw in the bowl game is the kind of tutelage he's going to receive from Shula, then Sellers should have taken the money.
I don't know if I do or not. I'm sure he was tampered with, but not convinced of the dollar amounts. That number seems steep for 2 seasons of play, but nothing is too absurd to be true in college football these days.I don't believe it.

I believe the dollar amount and the tampering - I just don't think it's all about the skill of Sellers as some on here seem to be imagining it to be....
What I mean is, Sellers might be worth $4 million to "X" school, and another $4 million for "X" school simply for us not to have him. That, I can see. Quite easily, actually.
You're thinking logically - and I can't argue with that. You're right in that sense.Really? How many teams are offering 8 million for a qb? And how many of those teams are we a threat to?
I googled a few articles about highest paid qb's. Manning was tops at 6 million, next was a couple guys in the 4 million range. Granted, how exact are those numbers?
But I can't see a team paying him as the highest qb in college football just to keep him away from us.
You're thinking logically - and I can't argue with that. You're right in that sense.
But I can see an Ole Miss paying $4 million for Sellers and Kiffin paying another $4 (or okaying it) just because he hates us that bad, apparently. He's a petty, petty man.
But if we're just talking strict football and everything else being above board, you're right.
Ole Miss doesn't have that kind of money to spend for spite and I don't think they care that he plays for us. The beat us 27-3 last season, why would Kiffin worry about Sellers playing for us? Sellers threw for 162 yds with 0 tds and 1 int against Ole Miss. He didn't light them up or do anything to make Kiffin care if he plays for us or not. You're thinking logically - and I can't argue with that. You're right in that sense.

Sellers reported $8 million, 2 year offer would have been on par with the reported deal Darian Mensah got from Duke, $8 million for 2 years ($4 million/year). Mensah played at Tulane prior to Duke.
In that context, it's believable that Sellers had this offer.
Also, teams are overpaying for talent right now. Teams are desperate to find the next big thing and they are obviously willing to throw big money at anyone who looks promising. Lots of big risks being taken.
That's got nothing to do with it. It was obvious that the spontaneity that had characterized Sellers' play in games like Missouri and UPC had been discouraged.Ehh Shula was calling another person plays and was changing personnel after every play because of it.
That's exactly how it appeared. They tied his feet together.Compared to the Clemson game, he seemed must more tentative running the ball. Don't know if they got in his head about not being too quick to run or what.
I don’t think you understand the return on investment if the later happens.I guess I should add the clarification that I don't think ANY player in college is worth $4 million/year. If you're investing that much in a single college player, it would be catastrophic failure not to win the title.

Uhh…he was going in as the starter last yearI'm interested to see how he handles the responsibilities of going in as the starter, and how the response will be now that opposing DC's will have a full compliment of scourting reports.
Again much promise, but some are getting a bit carried away.
Uhh…he was going in as the starter last year
What are we paying Sellers. It can’t be chump change because there was a small delay in him confirming he was staying and the insiders said a deal was being worked out. The House Settlement should stop this as nil deals have to be approved.
That is not the main take away from the post.Uhh…he was going in as the starter last year
Sellers has showed much promise, but that was based on the last half of the season, with expectations. I'm interested to see how he handles the responsibilities of going in as the starter, and how the response will be now that opposing DC's will have a full compliment of scourting reports.

Teams that win the title do it by building an entire roster on both sides of the ball. No single player is going to win a title for a team. Travis Hunter won the Heisman and was an incredible player and Colorado didn't even sniff the playoff.I don’t think you understand the return on investment if the later happens.
While that is the general rule, I would submit $cam Newton 2010. Auburn was unranked heading into that season. No $cam, no title for them. They probably never even get ranked that season. So there are surely teams out there who are a Sellers away from at least a playoff birth.Teams that win the title do it by building an entire roster on both sides of the ball. I concur and have mentioned a similar concern regarding the availability of his game tape. He was an unknown last season and caught a lot of folks by surprise. With his performances down the stretch last season, he has every DCs FULL attention. Teams will be scheming specifically to stop him, which wasn't so much the case last year.
And I agree with your final statement. There are reasons to be excited about him, but predictions of being a top 5 pick and such are way too premature at this point.
Winning with offense vs winning with defense is a different animal and Sellers will have to generate more offense to make us a winner.DC's having more tape on him will be an impact, but what concerns me more is our defense. The offense will be asked to do a lot more this year if the defense isn't the same as last year. And that's almost a given with how many people left.
