Looks like they made sure to get the semis matchups figured out before the season instead of in the middle of it. This is from VHSL Website vvvv

Semi-finals – The higher rated team (based on power rating or pre-determined site) will host.

- Region A champion v. Region B champion; Region C champion v. Region D champion.

- Class 4 will rank the four region champions - #1 seed to #4 seed. The #1 seed & #2 seed will host the state semifinal games.

- Class 5 pairings are Region A champion v. Region C champion and Region B champion v. Region D champion.

- Class 6 pairings are Region D champion v. Region A champion and Region B champion v. Region C champion.

Interesting that there cannot be a consistent format across the board. Letting the inmates run the asylum.

How will the Class 4 teams be ranked? Subjectivity? Based on actual results (which would be difficult based on most of those schools that deep in the playoffs have not played one another in the non-district)?

And what if each of the regions are not using power points? How are the rankings of said regions devised?

Also, what’s the realistic possibility that C or D gets a home game under this format? Not likely to be honest. I can’t believe that those two regions would agree to such a format.

Just seems extremely messy and uncalled for to be honest. But I’m not shocked. It’s terrible.

Allow me to clarify some incorrect information that is being posted.

This is exclusive to Class 4.

The regional matchups have been rotating for the past two years, and that will continue this year. This season Region A plays Region C, and Region B plays Region D, in the State semi-final games

The power points will be calculated exactly as they have previously been, with absolutely no changes.

Regional and the State semi-final games will have the team with the higher power points total (from only the regular season games), as the host team.

My source is the Administrator for Class 4B football.

Thanks for this. And I was being specific to Class 4 when responding to the OP.

Up until now, we didn’t know who was using power points or if there were different systems used in different classes…heck within different regions.

So when I saw that there would be rankings, one could conclude that the top teams in each region would be ranked 1-4 but based on subjectivity and not another way.

Please don’t insinuate that I was posting misinformation. I was only addressing what was posed in the OP’s post and thought the worst case scenario due to the combination of ineptitude from the VHSL and those who make the decisions downstream.

With all that being said, my blood pressure has been subdued quite a bit. I was worried about more unfairness and manipulation which would be on par with what we’ve seen in two classes in recent seasons.

Thanks for clarifying and getting the information for a good source that would be in the know.

My apologies, I did not intend to insinuate that. To be honest, I did not thoroughly read you post. I was requested to be sure accurate information was put out, and that is why I posted.

You know, it’s going to be a real mess as the year goes on with respect to these topics. Each class level, and in fact, each Region can do what they want and how they want. I think it is everybodies hope that all classes and regions will use the methods that were previously in place. But, they have the rightful autonomy to do as they please.

Another issue is us, the public, finding out how classes and regions are doing things. There are people, usually AD’s, that are the “Administrator,” (or some other title), that are charged with the responsibility of overseeing the ratings, and on the Class level, how the four regions bracket their playoffs. The problem is they do let it be known what the plan is and who is in charge. This is the primary reason “speculation” takes over and gets distorted.

Additionally, as far as I know, there is no “requirement” to post their ratings and playoff plans. And that sucks. The VHSL should at least have made it a requirement to provide this information to them so they could post it all on one site, and on a regular basis after week five.

I hope you're right DP. How can anyone infer what you're saying from what was written on the VHSL website. They clearly spelled out the old A/B C/D format, which must apply to C1-C3. They spelled out C5 and C6 with their different formats. For C4 there is zero mention of the A/C B/D format, just seeded 1-4 with 1 & 2 hosting. ????

I know Mike. The league let us down again. But, I can assure you my information is correct. It came straight from the horse’s mouth. Our AD is the Administrator or whatever you call them for 4B football.
