Ok. On SiriusXM channel 84, the college football channel, I heard them talking about Illinois and where they are in the pecking order of replacing their head coach. Of course it got me to think( a rarity I know) about where we fall in available head coaches. Surely USCw is number 1 or 2. USCe may be # 3 or 4, i dunno.
What number are we? I think 7-12 probably just based on current salary paid to the HC. Perhaps I am wrong? Am I way off base here?
The best option may be to NOT fire KF this year but wait and see what the HC marketplace looks like next year. That may not be popular, but it might be realistic.
What is your opinion?
USC.... USc.... VT...MD..Miami, then Rutgers, Illinois, Minnesota, Virginia in no order depending on a variety of things (what kind of system we want, where geographically the good coaches are, etc).
If current salary is the consideration then we are the worst P5 job because are teh lowest paying. I cant imagine that RU would can Flood though, to hire another nobody. Might as well ride it out.
The thing about waiting for next year is there isnt some infinite pool of coaches. Aside from freshly fired guys, the pool is largely the same this year to next. The only new guys are surprises - and frankly - if a guy wasnt worth hiring this year, and suddenly is great next year - maybe hes just a flash in the pan anyway.
But there is also no sign that next year will be better than this year. This year is the norm, except the early firings. Its the past two years that have been really low (which is why we should have fired Flood two years ago.)
There are two reasons not to fire Flood
1. You think hes going to turn it around. But after four years - its hard to say how anyone could think that (even if he wins out and gets to 6-6 - its a hollow 6-6 - no wins over winning teams AGAIN in all likliehood).
2. You think finances will drastically improve next year. Even then, it probably makes sense to splurge rather than wait.
