....has the Pack's existence had any influence on the course of events at MSU?
A post that I totally agree with in an earlier thread talked about how Foglesong came in and accomplished the very important task of getting rid of Templeton and hiring Byrne, thereby totally changing the mindset surrounding MSU athletics.
Byrne makes no secret of being accessible to the fans and reading emails.
I wouldn't be suprised if Byrne reads this board and all the boards, and I wouldn't be suprised if he didn't. But it seems to me that the Pack has given fans a truly objective place to discuss things, and that obviously wasn't around before it was created. At the very least, people can get on the board and realize that they are not the only one that feels a certain way about an issue (i.e. that Croom needed to be fired), and it has sort of given these fans a voice, or at least a presence.
Would Byrne have gotten the massive number of emails on Croom if it wasn't for this place? Did that make a difference in his decision making? I think it did, at least a little bit, even if Byrne would never admit it.
I will qualify all this and say that I don't think that Foglesong listened to anybody else, and obviously Templeton didn't. So if Foglesong hadn't stumbled along and dumped LT for Byrne, we would still be in the wilderness.
