If we beat the buzzards by 40+ will that get Mississippi Normal College to start looking towards dropping down to fbs?

What on earth makes you think that?

5 Teams beat USM by 40+ last year:

Nebraska
Boise State
East Carolina
North Texas
Marshall

Only FIU and Texas State beat them by less than 21 points (also their single win over UAB)

I have a feeling they're going to score some point this year.

38-21 type game.

I am just as confident about this game as I was the 2011 Egg Bowl

They will suck and we will roll them.

A new coach often brings renewed effort

New year, they will give all out effort.

I think we will easily win, but even though I have wool, I doubt it will be 40.

They don't have a new coach. Same guy that went 1-11 last year.

If we win by that score, adjust your best case scenario to 7 wins.

It's a new year for us, we're playing them in our first game in our expanded stadium, we won our last three games. What's your point?

They'll still suck. It's been so long since we've played USM that a lot of people don't realize the USM of today is nothing like the USM of the late 70s and 80s. I'm sure they will be better this year, but they still won't win 6 games even in their crappy conference.

If I were you, I'd bet every dime on a 40 point win..

My point is I doubt we will beat them quite that bad.

I also question that DM will deliver a crushing blow to them.

Lighten up... ****.

I actually believe this will be that game USM has to have to save their program. I think we will hang so many points on them that it will finally shock the people that need to be shocked to turn USM around. To be destroyed by a team that you used to beat half the time you played has a way a being a wake up call.

Remeber how much 45-0 benefited us.

But why? We are playing a team that is 1-23 the last two years. We should expect to win and win big.

You're letting the name Southern Miss and the fact that they were good when we last played them 23 years ago affect your thinking.

Perhaps history

but, Heck just prior to that they were playing in a bowl in Hawaii.

The ingredients are still there that has allowed them to be a reasonably solid team in the past, (not that long ago).

I'm just going to give them a little respect. and I have rarely gone into a MSU game expecting a total whip-***, even though I hope it happens.

Call me cautious.

They were playing in a **** bowl in Hawaii. Their conference champion played in a bowl in Memphis last year. How good were they? HD6 is right, you have no comprehension of how different USM is today (or even 2 years ago) than they were from roughly 1975 - 1990. They don't have the resources they had then, the money gap between them and us is exponentially greater, they're facing much more competition in what used to be their almost exclusive recruiting grounds of the SEC leftovers from Bama, FL panhandle, and LA. We may or may not win by 40, but there's no reason this game shouldn't be a blowout.

We beat the champion of their crap conference by nearly 40 points in the liberty bowl. This is gonna be like the 2 years when we opened against Memphis. It won't be remotely close.

Liberty Bowl 2013 score MSU 44 - Rice 7. We beat the reigning conference USA champions 44 to 7. By 37 points! Let that sink in for a moment. USM was 1-11 overall, and 1-7 in conference play.

I know this is a different year - it's not last year, but we should be able to name the score against USM. Have a little confidence.

This game really isn't going to make any difference to their program. Even if by some miracle they win it, they're still going to be facing the same issues that are crippling them now. The money gap between them and the SEC is just going to keep getting bigger. They're going to continue to face increasing competition for their old easy recruiting grounds of Bama, Florida panhandle, and Louisiana. And it's going to continue to be harder to find the good players who slipped through the cracks and no one else knows about.

Outside of last year when we played a team that stayed in the top 10 all season, Mullen's game 1's....

2009 MSU 45 JSU 7

2010 MSU 49 Memphis 7

2011 MSU 59 Memphis 14

2012 MSU 56 JSU 9

So what are you basing that on?

1st game of the year always start off rusty

Not when you return 20 of 22. Maybe a little rust but that will be offset by the fact it's their first game as well. I wouldn't lay 40 just because you never know when a coach will take his foot off the gas but we will whip them and the game will be over by halftime or sooner. Question is, can our 2nd string go +10 in a half against them. I expect it to be in the neighborhood of 28-0, 28-3 at the half.

yeah, but they are on a 1 game win-streak.** that qualifies as "en fuego" for them.

fact: usm's win (notice: not winNING) streak is longer than the win streak of the mighty al'bama crimpzun tihd
