When was the last time we beat a team we weren’t supposed to beat? I’m not trying to be a dick, I honestly just don’t know.

Rutgers went 6-0 straight up in games they closed as favorites this year and 0-6 in games they closed as the underdog
That’s surprising. We didn’t start at the favorites in all 6. Right?
Also wasn’t over under 4?

Betting lines are not released until the week of the game for individual games. The O/U was set at 4 for the season, yes

RU has historically faded as the season moved on under GS. Now they are better off now than under the 2 previous buffoons but expect late season fades going forward.

Yes,I know how betting lines work. My question was did we start as favorites in those 6 games

According to Schiano's supporters Maryland is practically Alabama so expecting a win--or even a close game--was too much, or they'll say it was a close game.

All I know is 2.0 has beaten One winning team in 4 years and that is absolutely unacceptable for anyone.

Stop with this nonsense. It’s a completely random statistic. We struggled with some injuries down the stretch but the reality is we still went 2-2 against the 4 teams on our schedule that finished 7-5 or 6-6. We were 4-0 against the teams that finished worse than 500. Not great - but also not awful. The remaining 4 teams on our schedule finished 43-5 with 4 of the 5 losses coming when they played each other. It’s not like there are other upsets to point to make a case that we should “expect” RU to have pulled off one of these upsets.

Technically, Northwestern finished 7-5 this season and we beat them so you can cross that off the list.

It has been forever since we've beaten a top 25 team.
Only took 10 seasons but NW is the first B1G team that finished with a winning record that Rutgers has beaten (both overall at 7-5 and in conference at 5-4). Got that monkey off their back.

VT finished 6-6 and has a shot at a winning record with their bowl so might be 2 winning teams this season. GT 6-6. BC 6-6. Syracuse 6-6. Duke 7-5. Clemson 8-4.

This is not true. Maybe a team that finished top 25 but not a team that was ranked at the time

Hot take: mid season rankings don't matter.
Especially early season rankings at the time.

Additional hot Take: stats like this are meaningless.
We beat NW who had a winning record.
But at then time they were a mess.
But we still best them so that is all that matters to most.

It takes too much nuance to get into these things adequately.

Agreed - it’s stupid to analyze this way. We just have to keep trying to get better and the future at OL looks like it could be promising for next season. That’s the bright side here - but only if we upgrade QB which shouldn’t be hard to do based on the starting point.

Please explain your OL optimism.

I guess it depends who returns but the OL has taken MAJOR strides this year overall. Pass protection was solid all season long along with run blocking. To me, that’s the worst part about Gavin’s numbers. It’s not remotely like in the Ash years when we attacked Art. Nobody could’ve gotten throws off in that situation. The 2023 line has been solid.

Needham will hopefully be back. Sutton can apply for an extra year of eligibility and heal up. Not sure about Pierce but Schiano has commented that we have depth in the pipeline on the left side. He’s sounded pretty optimistic about the direction of that room all season. Not the usual (we’re young - BS).

Maryland in 14 had 7 wins.
