"I've said this before and I'll say it again: Why should Mississippi State, Wake Forest, Purdue and Iowa State get to be part of the Power 5 when they bring nothing to the table? UCF, the second biggest school in the nation in the 18th-biggest TV market, has much more to offer in the form of growth potential, cable TV subscribers and recruiting base. But because Mississippi State was around 100 years ago when the SEC was formed and UCF wasn't, it's Mississippi State that is now part of college football's most powerful league."

Exactly. The SEC and ACC have the Orlando market dominated with or without UCF. If they're such a big freaking draw, why aren't the Big 12 or Big 10 giving them a call? We all know the answer to that. And he does too, but would never admit it.

Maybe it's just me, but if UCF truly has as much to bring to the table as this twit apparently thinks they do, then logic would lead me to believe that they would have been brought into the fold at some point during the various SEC, ACC, Big 10, and Big 12 expansions from the last few years. As things currently stand, they were desperately grabbed by the Big East in an effort to fill one of its gaping holes, and they've now been left in the dust after all the true power players from that league defected.

Too bad, so sad, but get over yourselves. You had a nice season last year... Nonetheless, your "powerhouse" program has been to a whopping 6 bowl games in its history(losing half of them), your stadium capacity would come in ranked next to last in the SEC in spite of your enrollment size, and the only thing that anybody outside of Orlando really knows about your school is that Blake Bortles has a hot girlfriend. Talk about a convenient and over-inflated ego following one miracle season.

Well, we average about 25% more fans in attendance with about 1/10th of the population density around campus. Those number will likely be closer to 33% once the stadium expansion is completed.

You could cut-and-paste most big city (but somehow at best third most popular team in that state) AAC team X (Houston! Cincy! USF!) and arbitrary "small-time" power conference team Y (Texas Tech? Purdue? MS State?) and have the exact same story. Sorry you're the perpetual bridesmaids of conference re-alignment, but that's big time college athletics for you. If what you were putting out there was REALLY that attractive, some sugar daddy would have come calling by now (Louisville says "hi").

I understand the world we're living in, one driven by football, but it's entirely narrow minded to sit here and say UCF's POTENTIAL to bring more fans and have more viewers outweighs a Mississippi State team that competes each and every year in every sport but women's soccer, women's volleyball, and realistically football.

You also can't just sit here and make a 12 team league made up of Notre Dame, Alabama, Texas, Michigan, etc... Who are they going to play?

AND you can't just have an upstart "everyone cares about this team!" movement go on. MSU is going to bring more fans to games and buy more merchandise than UCF regardless if their enrollment hits 6 figures because of the branding that began with MSU football 100 years ago. No one goes to UCF because they're a fan of the football team. A large amount of people do that at MSU. That might be a little sad, but it's reality.

This conversation is on par with me complaining that the MLS isn't better than the EPL simply because the United States has a better consumer market than Europe and Africa. It's ignorant and misinformed.

That being said, I imagine UCF and MSU would have similar numbers if MSU played UCF's schedule.

I'm not trying to turn this into a pissing match between us and Ole Miss, but someone answer me this.

Why are we always used as the example of the piss ant? Seriously, we've had much more success in athletics then them in recent history. Yet we are always the one that writers tend to jump on as the weak link.

Great questions, especially considering their extraordinarily bland run in athletics over the past two generations or so.

Truth be told, it's likely due to the visibility of some of their football alumni. Eli, Patrick Willis, Micheal O'her are sizable names in the NFL.

Its a directional commuter school w/ no history to speak of.

He obviously doesn't understand that the cable TV subscribers in the Orlando market are surely wanting to watch Florida or Florida State, NOT UCF.

I would guess, most of its students are UF or FSU or even UM fans if they even follow college football. It and USF are the schools for those that don't get into FSU or UF or live near by and commute. Plus FSU would block them from the ACC and UF would block them from the SEC so its a moot point anyway. Let them join the Big 12.

It's because people dont' realize that Ole Miss is the University of Mississippi. If people are going to point to a sister of the poor school in texas, they are going to point to Texas Tech, not SMU or TCU.

If college football were starting right now, there probably would only be one representative from Mississippi and Alabama in major football conferences but UCF would probably still be on the outside looking in, with FSU, UF, and USF being the major draws in florida, then UCF and lastly Miami. But there's no sense in crying over spilled milk. UCF is not in a major conference because people don't care about them and people don't care about them because they have never been in a major conference. That's just the way things are.

Because MSU doesn't win "the party". We don't win the "recruiting championship" on ESPN. We don't sit around pounding our chest when we take a big dump like they do. It's sad, but we live in a world of self promotion. If you aren't talking yourself up constantly, you will go unnoticed. And we don't have a culture of "look at me! Look at me!". It's one of the reasons MSU is the great school that it is...but it hurts us when talking National perception, especially in football.

And whether we like it or not, a lot of these turds still think about Vaught and Archie like the Ole Miss fan base. They act like that **** was yesterday instead of several decades ago. Our lack of history hurts us now, but once the 35-40 year old and younger generation gets about 20 years on em, many more will recognize us when it comes to Mississippi's premier athletic school IMO.

What are you talking about? I love college baseball. And I'm glad we've got one of the better programs around (finally back to where we rightfully should be). But it's a fact that there's only about 20-30 schools where college baseball is a big deal at all. And it's a fact that almost no one watches it on TV outside of the relatively few fans of the schools playing. In the hierarchy of things there's:

1. Football

2. Basketball

3. Baseball
4. Softball
5. Everything else

It was just a slap that didn't need to be made. That is all I am saying. If you really want to get technical, the poll is more like 90% football, 5% basketball, then all other sports sharing the last 5%. I just think it was an obvious statement that only MSU fans would point out to try to take a little more away from one of our biggest accomplishments ever.

Not meant as a slap at all. Just a statement of fact. Football and basketball are so far above all other sports combined that they are the only 2 major sports. And per the site below, the gap between football and basketball isn't as big as a lot of people seem to think. According to it, the average Div. I school brings in $15M of football revenue and $10M of basketball revenue. I suspect the gap is a little bigger than that though. It would be better if it showed the average for I-A schools, or better yet, for the 5 major conferences.

I think you might be the one with your panties in a wad. It's true, baseball is not a major college sport. It's a major sport at State and most of the SEC but it's nowhere near as big as college football or basketball on a national perspective by fans and media.
