Seriously? 4 errors (so far)? This is what 3 years of Cohen delivers? ...

Not even remotely competitive. Embarrassingly ****** and overmatched. Pathetic.

Here is a snapshot of how 17ing terrible this game has gone: Statz strikes out Esposito, but he reaches second on a wild pitch and error by Freemen. Esposito then advances to third on a wild pitch. Finally, Esposito scores on another wild pitch. What a 17ing joke.

We have won 2 SEC titles in basketball since we won one in baseball. We have 5 SEC West titles in basketball since we won one in baseball. 3 SEC teams were in the top 5 in the nation at one point this season. It's clearly easier to win in basketball than it is to win in baseball.

Yet nobody expects us to go to Kansas or Duke and play them close or beat them in basketball- but baseball is expected to. Blows my mind.

The 1980's and 1990's are over in baseball- it's a totally different landscape now.

I know you hate Stansbury irrationally, but he has never run out such a crappy product, EVER, and definitely not for three years straight. Surely even you can see that.

Yes, I'll take that back gladly over sucking like we have the last 3 years with Cohen, who is still yet to win double digit SEC games.

all you have to do is look at the MLB draft and it will tell you all you need to know about the "talent" we have had. We are 11th or 12th in the SECin draft picks the last 6-7 years

We have had a losing conference record 7 of the last9 years- that should really wake you up about our program- obviously it doesnt

What I'm saying is that they sure beat the heck out of right now, though. And the Polk excuse is out the window now. It's time for Cohen to stand on his own. In a sport where the best players leave after their junior year, you should be ready to rock and roll by year 3. And yet we see the same thing happening over and over.

When y'all hired Polk, did anyone think that it would take more than three years to make the SEC tourney?

Cause you're probably right, they're the exact same.

ETA: Unless you're referring to Polk Round deux, and in that case our program wasn't even remotely in the ******* like it was when Cohen took over.

I meant when you hired Cohen. I remember when Cohen was hired, everyone figured that the first year would be tough, and it was. I also remember that most people thought that year 2 would be a mild improvement. It wasn't. Im pretty most if not all believed that by year three, MSU would be at a minimum NCAA tourney team and hopefully competing for a top 25 spot and hosting a regional. Well its year three, and though I think everyone is drastically overreacting to losing to a very good Vandy team with quite possibly the best pitcher in college baseball, if MSU does go 10-20 at what point is his tenure a colossal failure.

Personally I think everyone is just overreacting to losing a game that most everyone thought they would lose.

... we were not even competitive. I could stomach something like a 5-2 loss, but we played like ****. 5 errors, 4 hits? Sonny Gray is good, but we made him look like Nolan Ryan.

If we are not competitive in the next 2 games............ we really need to look at what we are doing.

Richard Williams- 1st postseason- year 4
Rick Stansbury- 1st NCAA Tourney- year 4
Sylvester Crooms- 1st winning season- year 4

I mean seriously- when you did you ever think you would see Mississippi State at 11th or 12th in draft picks over a 5 year period in baseball?

Polk didnt leave the 17'ing campus his last 2 seasons to recruit...that is inexcusable

Don't you always say Stans took over a good situation and a program that should be easy to win at BECAUSE we were only 2 years removed from a Final 4 when he took over???<div>
</div><div>Cohen took over a program ONE year removed from a CWS and one that had only missed 2 regionals the last 13 years, and a program that other than 2008 hadn't had a losing record since 1975.</div><div>
</div><div>I know the talent left behind, at least on the mound, was thin... But let's not act like our recent history was this terrible or that we were used to nearly what we're seeing now. It's not like our recent history proved you couldn't win at MSU anymore</div><div>
</div><div>PS... I also notice you left Mullen out of that argument on purpose. Good coaches don't always, but certainly can turn things around quickly</div>

Both Williams and Stansbury had shown significant improvement in the program by year 3. And you really don't want to be comparing your boy Cohen to the other coach.

pathetic to judge this team over 1 Friday loss to Vandy's ace (who is as good as it gets). 1 baseball game. Get over it. Tomorrow we win.

The Recruiter took over a team that had Ty Washington drafted and Tang Hamilton get signed by the Heat- 40% of his starters were wanted by the NBA

Cohen took over a team where the coach didnt leave campus the last 2 years to recruit- didnt leave the 17'ing campus.....took over a team with a losing SEC record 5 of the last 7 seasons- losing record in league play over and over. We were at the bottom of the SEC in talent.

quit being a moron- **** basketball has 5 starters- and you can win big with a 7 man team...baseball requires 13 starters plus subs and these guys dont even get full rides which makes it harder to recruit

Polk made the College World Series in 2007 ... that means one of the last eight playing

Cohen will be lucky to finish in the Top 100 of Division I baseball this season

didnt mean they were on stable ground to compete for the title every season- which is what you have to do to compete in SEC baseball</p>

I'm not saying we weren't in bad shape personnel wise when he got here, I'm using YOUR logic that you use in other sports.<div>
</div><div>The SEC is the toughest baseball conference in the nation, getting close to .500 gets you in a regional. Outside of one year, going 6-24 in conference play isn't comparable to what the norm was during Polk's last 7 years, which nobody was happy with by the way.</div><div>
</div><div>The program had made a regional in 5 of the last 6 years before Cohen took over, winning 40 games or close to it almost every year except for 08. Won a SEC tourney title and went to a CWS within Polk's last 4 years. At this point, Cohen would probably kill to get to .500 in SEC play, win the SEC tourney title, or even get to a regional in his 3rd OR 4th year at MSU, that's how bad it's gotten</div><div>
</div><div>And although Polk didn't leave it loaded, didn't 6 of his players get drafted the last 2 years not including Routt and Jones who might get drafted this year? That list of draftees also doesn't include guys like Duffy, Sneed, Deloach, or Atkins, who ALL hit better than the guys that are here now and many of whom hit over .330 in conference play at least once in their careers</div><div>
</div>
