mainly from folks that just talked to players. Apparently, Mullen, Hud and Balis were the only coaches present. Everything seems to have been positive, no fits of rage or clothing shed. Just appears to have been a long, straightforward meeting about their plans, rules, expectations, etc.

Someone said they went through every page of a pretty extensive "manual" that will govern team rules, direction of the program, etc.

that was my biggest complaint about Sherrill- he never had a plan other than try to bring in a bunch of JUCO's and win that next year- the years after that be damned.

Thats what one player I talked with said. They all seem to be really excited about this coaching staff. He also said the strength and conditioning coach is already working them harder than ever before (said a lot of people were throwing up only midway through).

This isn't rocket science. Every football coach knows you have to have solid trenches, a good nucleus of talented players, and that you have to keep replenishing that pool of players through recruiting. That combined with a sound scheme and you are good to go.

The West Coast is known as much for being a "mode of operation" as is it is an innovative offense. It is a philosophy and way to go about winning football games and building programs (preferably professional programs). Unfortunately, though we are all tired of hearing the word, executing the WCO philosophy at this level is ambitious (at best).

Jackie had a plan too...and who says it was a bad one? Recruit massive O-lines, ram the ball down the opposing teams throats, and let Joe Lee's safeties/LB's murder people on defense. Leave the other team wishing they stayed home that day. That too was effective and fun to watch. I will always have fond memories of JJ, M. Davis, etc. busting heads and Coop, Tim Nelson, etc. ripping QBs and WRs.

From all we have heard from Hud/Mullen/Meyer...they gush over the spread like Greek philosophers. It is an ideology to them, find a way to get the ball into the playmakers hands in space, at all costs. Ironically, it is simple by nature. Kind of like Bull Durham, you throw the ball, you catch the ball, you [run] with the ball. H.S. teams all over the country are running it. It is not about ball control or imposing your will, like Jackie's brand of football - but like Jackie's brand of football, I think it will also be effective and fun to watch. As I have said to friends, if we can't score some (serious) points with Mullen and Hud running the show, we never will.

I was talking more about recruiting though. It just didn't seem like Jackie had four-five year plan and didn't care if we used up all of our scholarships on JUCO players who would be gone in two years.

Don't we hear a variation of that every time there is a new strength coach? No offense to you, Croomp, you're just passing along what you hear. I just find it amusing.

we were THAT bad out of shape. Maybe I'm just giving the defense a pass for being on the field all game long.

real serious workouts since the season ended. I know that they had a workout regimen they were suppose to follow over Christmas but I doubt it was as extreme as those they do during school. It might take them a week or so to get back in playing shape so I'll cut them some slack for puking the first time or two they go through the new S&C program.

The bigger question is, What the hell is the strength coach doing working them out? NCAA bans organized workouts for football strength coaches until Jan. 20. Not a good idea to come straight in and get us turned in on workout infractions.
