Caught the tail end of a conversation between Gumbel and Davis.

Davis said he sees the SEC getting "3 teams in the NCAA tournament. None from the SEC West"

I would tend to agree with that from what I've seen so far.

We get our chance to prove ourselves against those other 3 teams, and therefore can play our way in. It will be a tough road though, since nationally the SEC is getting no respect.

UT is trash. If they get in it's because of their past reputation of the past couple of years. UF hasn't proven any more than LSU. I can see why he said that, but if those 2 teams get in with Kentucky, it's because of name and past accolades only. Neither UT nor Florida are any better than the top 2 or 3 teams on the West side.

because the of the way the system is set up. There was really no other team that could've gotten the Ohio State bid unless you argue Boise State should've gotten it. Regardless, the system makes it pretty easy for a the Big 10 to get 2 teams in. The NCAA basketball tournament is far different.

2008 Big 10 football was equivalent to 2009 SEC basketball. They were not to far ahead of C-USA/MAC, and worse than the Pac 10, Big East and ACC. Yes, if the Big 10 can have 2 BCS teams this year, then the SEC definitely deserves 5-6 teams in the tourney.

UT has wins over Georgetown and Marquette. I'm not going to look it up, but I doubt anybody else in the SEC has anything like that on their resume. The past accolade argument doesn't carry much weight anymore. If it did, Florida would have gotten in last year after back-to-back titles.

because Arkansas hasn't won since you declared them to be a good team and, if I'm not mistaken, neither has Vandy.

A blow out home win over a very average team does nothing to advance that theory.

LSU has the talent to win the SEC. I think that if they get hot, they could give any team in the country trouble. They still have a ways to go. This was apparent against Xavier. But the talent is there!

First off, Boise State is the only team that was available with a higher BCS ranking (9 instead of 10 for OSU).
And the BCS at large spots are all about money. Ohio State is probably the second biggest draw in college football behind Notre Dame. Boise State, being in Idaho, couldn't even come close to competing for that.

Those are completely different situations.

And yes the SEC sucks balls in basketball this year. Any team that doesn't win 12 conference games shouldn't get consideration. The league was bad last year, and it's worse this year. Alabama was weak, and then they lost Steele. We were young to begin with, and we've lost almost all of our backcourt, still working on messing up the rest of their knees. LSU is decent, not great. Arkansas has the biggest OOC wins in the league, and they are getting smoked in SEC play. Florida is decent, not great. UT is decent, not great. There isn't a single SEC team in the Top 25, and that's because none deserve it.
