I thought Shaka Smart would have been a great fit for Northwestern when he was at VCU, but alas he went to Texas, and who could say no to that job. Things didn't work out for him there, and now he has Marquette competitive in his first year there.
My question is, IF Northwestern wanted to try a new coach, would it be able to lure someone like Smart? I have seen estimates that put CC earning $3 million a year, and SS getting about $1.2 million at Marquette. I have to imagine Northwestern has a bigger budget with the B1G cash. On the flip side, Northwestern has its issues, but as we have seen, NU is also very patient with coaches. Marquette probably doesn't pay as well, but they have other advantages NU doesn't.
Regardless if you think Smart is the right for for Northwestern, do you think NU can pull someone in a similar coaching situation?
