Extremely reliable source tells me he interviewed for the co-defensive coordinator job this week in Dallas at the coach's convention.

Just passing that along

It's just a way to set one assistant up as a little higher than the other position coaches and get him a little more money. If the co-coordinator title gets us a better coach, I'm all for it. Even if it gets us the same coach, there's no reason to be against it.

I cannot believe that we will be sticking with the Co Coordinator title.
Most reports indicate that we will. In theory it makes sense, because if Wilson leaves down the road, we can easily "maintain" our defensive style (like we hopefully will next year w/o Manny).

In reality? Well, we'll see what CJ and other defensive recruits do, as well as how we approach defensive schemes next season.

Like they mostly did with Wilson last year? Watching most games, it seemed the "defensive coordinator" was Manny Diaz.

Wilson should get that Diaz treatment next season--a little more "co-DC" than Beamer.

the only Co-DC was Wilson. Diaz was the head guy last year make no mistake. However Wilson did have a lot of input and they did work hand-in-hand.

He's been with Ellis Johnson for 4 years, he's also their recruiting coordinator. Seeing how they've been recruiting lately and how losing Hudspeth has affected us this could be a great hire. Plus he's got great name recognition, and he's young and energetic.

He has coached LBs and safeties. He could help with special teams and he is recruiting coordinator for SC. Seems like a good choice.

I always liked EJ defenses and this guy has spent enough time with him he should be able to add something to what wilson will do.

I know her and her family well. It wouldnt surprise me if she (and his mother in law) are pushing for them to come back to Starkville

I just don't see that. Your average fan probably can't name any non-head or non-coordinators that aren't on their current staff.

The only "name" most will know is "hey, we got Team X's LB coach to come be our LB coach and Co-DC."

And with that, getting a coach from Oklahoma was a helluva lot more impressive than one from Middle TN State.

At SC, Beamer coached special teams, strong safties, and "spurs"? What are "spurs"?

What has he done that would make him a LB or DL coach?

State is looking to make a big hire... as big as you can with an LB coach.

Wardlaw said Beamer told his USC contact that he has no interest at this time.

And desperately trying to get out of their current job, or is that just the line for Mullen?

Um I don't know smartass, I guess just working under a very good DC as in ellis johnson for say 7 years total should make a person more capable than what they were before. His special teams were good, but his recruitin skills didn't turn out to bad either. Resume looked ok, but whatever I guess everybody need a 17n stat sheet before they make a comment about a hire.

"Splash Hire" -- For a LINEBACKERS COACH? Shane Beamer would be about as big of a splash as you could get. A "splash hire" would be luring Bob Stoops away from Oklahoma to coach the linebackers, and that ain't happening. <div>
</div><div>And just because a SC contact said he wasn't interested means squat.</div>

Geoff Collins will be named later today or in the morning. Huge hire for us. Is currently def co at FIU, also stops at UCF, Ga Tech and Bama. Oh yeah, was recruiting coord at Bama the year they had the no. 1 class in the country, had the no. 1 class in the ACC the year before in the same position at Ga tech. So has had HUGE recruiting success throughout the southeest, most specifically in Georgia and Florida. Young aggressive, great hire overall!
