This won't be good for Pitt. I got to believe there are some young, dynamic coached who given a chance could be much better OC.

Zac Lee and Shawn were the reasons Nebraska didn't win the Big 12 in 2009. Those two jokers couldn't tie their shoes without it turning into a botched-abortion, so Pelini forced them to flip the offense back to the Stone Age.

How this guy keeps landing good jobs as an offensive coordinator mystifies me. He is the Dave Wannstedt(sp?) of offensive coordinators
He put up huge numbers at NU and at Louisville even with a crazy person screaming in his headset constantly at NU. IMO, he was screwed at Texas because of poor talent at QB at Texas. I think he'll do a good job at Pitt.

Huge numbers at NU? Do you have some stats? That would be helpful. Maybe I am allowing the 2009 season to color my judgement of the whole.

He did well at CU if memory serves.

We put huge offensive numbers for yards and scoring with him as OC. Go back and look what he did with Taylor Martinez. That in itself was amazing considering what he was working with for QBs.

Hi guys, i am a Pitt fan trying to find out what type of offensive coordinator we just hired. Reading some of your posts. Some think its a good hire. Others not so much.

He has some big shoes to fill. Matt Canada was tremendous for us.

He left, to go to LSU for 1.6 million a year. Pitt fans are hoping Watson can come close to the offense Canada had. He has a lot of good material to work with at Pitt.

Any feedback would be much appreciated....ty

He's a veteran OC and I think he'll do fine as long as your coach doesn't try to make him run some sort of spread/read option- he's a WCO guy. He has looked really good when he has a good QB and not so good when he doesn't. Funny how that works out.

A QB and O line are obviously very important for any OC. Watson is a good guy, is very organized and works his tail off. He's most versed in the WCO but has run variations of the spread option at Colorado, NU, and Ohio State. He showed what he could do with a good QB at Louisville. Personally I think he would make a good head coach and got a bad rap at UT based on poor QB options. FWIW, Tom Osborne insisted that Pelini keep him on staff when Callahan got canned and liked the job Watson did.

Most of those huge numbers were against some pretty bad teams. What Tim Beck did with Martinez was much more impressive. Went from a 55% passer to a 62% passer and in 2012 threw for 2000 rushed for 1000. Watson has success more with west coast qbs. Look at our 2008 offense with Ganz at the helm for more of a Watson-style offense. 35ppg in '08, 30ppg in '10.

Thanks for the feedback.........good luck to you guys next year.

Hope the next time you play Penn st. Nebraska beats them to oblivion. They deserve all the beat downs they get.

Ahh and thank god we finally got rid of Steve Peterson. Both Nebraska fans and Pitt fans know what a moron that guy was.

Met him a few times and have nothing but good things to say about him.

You had a better encounter than I did. Met him a day after Alex drilled the 57 yard FG. We were in the lower level of Devaney for the NU vs Creighton MBB game. Just standing and waiting for the game to end. I congratulated him on the victory. Nothing more nothing less. Had my 11 year old cousin with me. Never asked him for an autograph or picture, nothing. And he was a complete smug @sshole. Some people apparently don't like sincere compliments.
