to the extent that there are any influential supporters remaining who want to give him one more year, will be the Mississippi game. If that one turns into an ugly rout, sending them to the Outback or Music City or Peach, it could be enough to send the hangers on over the edge. Nutt putting them in a quality bowl in year one may be too much for even the wooliest MFers.

and with that possibility in mind, I might just have to join the trashiest of my kinfolks this year and yell "Hotty Toddy."

The only good thing that comes out of our unhealthy obsession with Ole Miss is that them doing good and us doing very poorly gets our fans all riled up. It shouldn't take us losing to Ole Miss to put people over the edge, but it likely will. The other side of that coin is if we beat Ole Miss and end up 4-8, that will justify another year of the Slytanic in the mind of many. Remember the wool that sprouted after the 2005 Egg Bowl.

who came in my cubicle yesterday and announced that he is "praying for State to upset Alabama."

Why?

"If that happens, y'all will have Croom for another 4 years."

...Kyle is a beat writer, not a columnist. The Daily Journal combines those two responsibilities. The Clarion-Ledger does not.
