YOU JUDAS ISCARIOT

All kidding aside dont blame you. Lincolnton is one of the finest people I have ever met... Just a qgentle soul who will brighten your days with his stories..... His mansion is already prepared in heaven, but I hope he is around on earth forever... what a gentleman...
Man dun got biblical on me…
And I didn’t even get no silver dollars or nothing…

Yes he is that sir. And so are you. I can’t really lose no matter who comes out on top. Wishing you both well…

Now on the other thread, which should waft into the cloud somewhere, I may have said some ungentlemanly things directed at one of your uh..lion brethren? I apologize to you for that.
Country boys are different. Even the old ones like myself

perfectly understandable reasoning.

Perchance, what years did you visit Cherryville?
Well my name ain’t Perchance (thank you momma) but seriously it was 1981. Left handed center fielder from Cherryville must of hit like.900 that series. We were good but he didn’t let that team lose. I believe they won State that season. It was semifinals when we faced them.

Shelby Lion, and TheKidd, thank you my friends. Both of you set the standards that I try to reach. Also appreciate your patience with me.

AlwaysAWolf, TheKidd, played for the 1981 Eastern Randolph American Legion team who were regional runners-up…I read in the Lincolnton newspaper that summer, they were playing Reidsville’s legion team and Were trailing, I believe. They came back in that game, defeated Reidsville, then went on a winning streak that might have set a state record…TheKidd is a modest guy, but they were definitely good.

Mr. Kidd, the center fielder for Cherryville was Jimmy Fortenberry out of East Lincoln. He was a good all-around athlete who played in double A and maybe a year in triple A…His father was a standout running back at Lincolnton High, class of 63.

Cherryville went on to beat out Snow Hill, from Greene County, which is next to Pitt County (Greenville,NC) for the state.
They (Cherryville) played in the Middle Atlantic regional double elimination tournament. Cherryville would lose out to Brooklawn New Jersey, and were eliminated by Richmond, Va., who would finish as national runners-up to West Tampa, Fl.

Postscript:About the Richmond-Cherryville game, was won on a suicide squeeze. Not sure but I’m thinking the run was scored by their catcher whose last name was DeMente.

Was a fun summer for baseball. :)

My son coaches baseball at John Paul catholic school very close to Pitt, him and wife both went to East Carolina,
Shelbyfan1, I congratulate your wife and you for raising who obviously must be a fine son, and who like his father, wants to help others .

I’ve never been to Greenville, but I know people who attended East Carolina University. All of them seems to like the area. I always ask them if they’ve had barbecue from Skylight Inn in Ayden. All the best to your son.

That was indeed a fun summer for baseball. Jimmy was a special player, and was among a buncha others.

Kidd, you oughtta come and peep the place now. Its been turfed and polished, but still has the old feel as well. I certainly dont remember it like Lincolnton, but I would have been sitting near the left field foul pole.

Being 16 was pretty danged cool as well!

Yeah bud, proud of my boy, but this thanksgiving hit different. It was the first (of many to come) Kane wasn't with us.. Nope he was finishing up the FTX (March to Honor Hill) where they gained their Infantry crossed rifles ... His 22 weeks of Basic and AIT will end next Friday as he graduates.. We will get to see him graduate then he thinks he will get to come home a couple weeks and report back on Jan 4th for RASP (Ranger) training which will also be held at Ft. Benning... I have also read a couple hours after graduation they leave for RASP.... We havent gotten to talk to him but one time since we were down there in September for his turning green ceremony... So we just dont know much yet.. I know this, Im ready to see my son...

LHS had a standout player on the East Carolina baseball team from a couple of years back. Lane Hoover. Who, I believe, is a cousin to #24, the RB from Mountain Heritage. Small world.

Trying not to hijack thread but…
You were probably right behind me. Strapping third baseman who thought he was better than he was. Played SS in high school as well as most of that winning streak Lincolnton referenced. Won like 17 in a row I think after coming back from nine down to beat Reidsville when Scott Bankhead wouldn’t come out in bottom of ninth. That came to a screeching halt thanks to Mr Fortenberry…
I remembered his name just too painful to say it 😂😂😂

I remember it like it was yesterday. You made a nice play, and I yelled, "look what I found." You turned, looked at me, and replied "Lincolnton by 2. Go WOLVES!"

I think I heard something about Lincolnton folk saying the fire marshall wasn't going to allow any structures to be put up without proper sprinkler systems in case of fire 🤣🤣
