Shelby has definitely been trending upwards over the last 4-6 weeks or so... Hibriten has played 2 sloppy games in a row but obviously has the potential to turn that around really quick.... Both teams return a lot from last year’s classic regional final so it should be interesting... Weather also seems to be waiting to hit until after the outcome has been decided

No they actually come over get good coaching and learn to be a team. They also expand their education and are proud to have fan base that cares about them and what they do, on and off the field

With that said, no one about 8 weeks ago gave us much of a shot to even be in this position, this team has grown by leaps and bounds since that 1-3 start... They are playing pretty good ball.... Ill say this... Get us this year if you can, next year with a season under their belt this offense is going to be scary good....

Best of luck to both but go Golden Lions, its right there in front of you,.. The defending champs are right there,waiting on your arrival..

Mistake free? Hibriten fans will enjoy watching your receivers try to run and juke before they catch the ball.
You're playing 3A schools again from here on out, can't make all those mistakes you made in those 2A games.:D

Good Post Shelby Lion. I to heard the stories about our team having a down year. Our coaches going back to Casey Morris have always found a way for our players to improve each week throughout the season. Coach Ware and his staff will no doubt have a great game plan prepared for this week. Hibriten deserves the respect as the defending state champions and I'm sure their coaches will have a great game plan prepared. I'm looking forward to another great Western final game.

When you guys have a bad game teams like Burns beats ya. When we have a bad game we win by 19. But it is fine you all have us underdog. The defending state champions that gave up a td on the first play last year and blanked your team. Your qb threw 31 times just like the game plan this year. Bess better throw up some prayers Friday. We have the athletes to snatch that pray away and run the other way! Defending state champs and underdog, give me a break!!

First off there is no way Hibriten is the underdog. You have won 30 in a row and are the defending 2AA champions and defeated us last year. But we are the Shelby Golden Lions who have played in 8 of the last 9 Western Championships and are coming to Lenoir to try and win the right to go back to the State Championship.

I think we like being the underdog. Neither of these two teams is truly an underdog. These are the best two teams in the state in 2AA football. Neither Eastern team is within 20 points of either of these two teams. Calpreps shows this as a 7 point game for Hibriten. I know it can go either way with these two. I see the 2AA state championship being this Friday in Lenoir!!!

North has 1300 for ADM numbers, they are a 4A school, they still aren't within 20 points of either Hibriten or Shelby!

I’d say hibriten and Shelby will both be favored. But I would say by about 7-15 points.

North Davidson has 1144 students this year. Ledford would struggle to score on Shelby or Hibriten IMO but both teams would have issues with Ledfords D. North Davidson IMO would give either a game.

It wasn't a late hit, the whistle did not blow. The penalty was targeting, that's what the ref said. How does a defender tackle a ball carrier and it's targeting? I really don't understand that.

Shelby had to replace the whole offense from last year. No starter from last year.

I missed the play at the game, but i just saw the video. 24 wasnt completely down. He went down and was on top of the defender and no whistle was blown! Typical sore losers!

Targeting can occur when the play is still going on, doesn’t have to be a LATE hit.... Most times it’s because of helmet to helmet contact which occurred Friday night.... In both college and pros it also occurs an automatic ejection from the game which is why I was surprised he finished the game on Friday

Should be easy to beat Shelby this year. Whole new offensive line. The line just can't block.

I didn't think it could be called when tackling the ball carrier, as he LEADS WITH HIS HELMET when running the ball, a defender can't avoid it in the skirmish. I believe it to be a bad call....

Here is the rule from the NCHSAA website article from 2014:

In an effort to reduce contact above the shoulders and lessen the risk of injury in high school football, the National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS) Football Rules Committee developed a definition for “targeting,” which will be penalized as illegal personal contact.

The definition of targeting and its related penalty were two of 10 rules changes approved by the rules committee at its January meeting in Indianapolis. All rules changes were subsequently approved by the NFHS Board of Directors.

Effective with the 2014 high school season, new Rule 2-43 will read as follows: “Targeting is an act of taking aim and initiating contact to an opponent above the shoulders with the helmet, forearm, hand, fist, elbow or shoulders.”

Bob Colgate, NFHS director of sports and sports medicine and liaison to the Football Rules Committee, said the committee determined – in its continued effort to minimize risk of injury in high school football – that it was important to separate and draw specific attention to this illegal act.

“Taking aim with the helmet, forearm, hand, fist, elbow or shoulders to initiate contact above the shoulders, which goes beyond making a legal tackle, a legal block or playing the ball, will be prohibited,” Colgate said.

He was making a legal tackle, not taking aim at someone, the guy was the ball carrier. That's my point.

If that’s the case it should have been done at game time. Not the next week. The officials need to be punished and suspended as well for allowing the kid to continue to play

Helmet to Helmet almost always involves a QB, RB or WR.... I agree the refs should have done it Friday night and should be reprimanded as well...

I don’t have a problem with the flag at all!!! Just my opinion

Yea you should not be able to go back and make a decision at a later date. These games are in the hands of officials. The schools pay them to make the calls My opinion it’s on them.

The bigger question is how does Hibriten play Bandys 2 yrs in a row, have 2 kids ejected for the next game. I don’t ever see hhs kids kicked out of anything? Just an observation, no accusation

Bandys has several ejections this year.
