I hate the slang “natty” more than maybe anything in sports. If someone said the Dallas cowboys would win the super bowl this year but “natty” would be erased from existence, i think I would take that offer. Only if “chip” for championship was erased too
Odd take. If any lang should irritate it should be ‘Choppin’ which jumped the shark 15 years ago and we heard about a hundred times today.

Runner up: “goal is going 1-0 each week”

Odd take for a Cuse ***** who used 3rd person…that jumped the frozen Tundra 30 years ago…
Shelby is all for your forum enjoyment at his expense, doesn’t matter to him, but FYI your Cuse crutch is false, but keep it up if it amuses you.

Not sure how it started. Others claim Shelby is a PSU fan, but he does know how that started. Shelby stated that the Sandusky thing is irrelevant to the quality of education or PSU students/grads. Penn State is AAU just like Rutgers is. And that is true no matter that many RU fans want to believe that it’s a ****** school because RU is so inferior in football. That’s how Shelby was painted a PSU fan. Cuse, no clue and not true. Shelby never said anything about Cuse, good or bad.

Shelby was at the 1988 PSU football win, rooting for RU btw.

Honestly. If Rutgers lost that game. Jobs would be lost and Greg’s seat would’ve started to really heat up in the new admins eyes. It wouldve been the near equilavent of when Ash lost to Kansas when Kansas hadn’t beaten anyone in a long time.

Um no. Not even close. First of all, Purdue isn’t close to as bad as that Kansas program. They beat Ball State 31-0 (who beat Ohio). Outside of the bad loss to NW last week, Purdue has been pretty competitive.

Socond and more importantly, the Ash embarrassment was getting mopped up 55-14 by Kansas, not simply losing the game. Upsets happen all the time. It was the fact that we didn’t even belong in the same stratosphere as a basement dweller B12 team not that we lost. So no, not close.

In game 8, 2/3 way of the season, why does the defensive players, esp in the secondary, still appear they don't know the calls, where they are to be? Guys left wide open for cheap TDs? Even the line kept shifting players right up the snap a number of times. We have 1 retread imposter as a co-DC in Rob Smith, where the difference is he sucked in year 1 instead of year 2, and a co-DC who may be wet behind the ears? This mostly appears coaching.

A question I had. The DB (Henderson?) sees that there is obviously something wrong as there is no one within 10 yards of the WR. Why not call time out???

I'm sure Steve is touched
You act like that piece should not be written or if Greg is not being fired for being completely inept at his job.

Gives up almost 800 yds of offense to a team that pulled its first and second string players in the 3rd quarter
.
Oregon had over 15k fans celebrating and cheering at SHI.

Follow that up by barely beating the worst team in the Big w their back up QB to playing.

What miracle?
The lucky turnover at the end of the game. Then the fact Schiano didn’t F it up somehow after that.

Like the timeout last year vs Illinois kicking into the wind 60 plus yards. Then giving up. TD on what 2 plays in 60 yards?

He’s a few IQ points short of the top coaches. Let’s just be honest. Nicest way to say it. He is a hard worker and good person.

In regard to PSU as a school and the education- I agree. No shame in anyone going. I have no issue with players going there for football either. The issue are the fans from that era who show no shame.
Everything else- maybe the Cuse thing started as you sound very uneducated yourself, and that be the only school you could have gotten into. No one calls you out often for being PSU, because you would have to be more intelligent than what you show on this board to have gone there.

Purdue pulled a Rutgers play against Rutgers in the end. Perhaps a sign of the reversal of the RU Screw?
Ehhh… The defense made that happen… The good plays actually, batted the ball, punch the ball for fumble and secured it. Nothing about that was given. Need to give credit to the D there… The Purdue QB didn’t do anything exotic other than catch the ball and run forward.

They drill the strip so the play was a byproduct of hard work.

I just rewatched the 2nd half...We gave up some plays butit was our best 2nd half all season.

Walker had a heck of a game- not only that last play but earlier- when the WR was OPI from the line of scrimmage to about 10-15 yards deep- he was aware enough on that play to get his hands up as well. Very smart play by him.

Our OL has to also figure out how to stop the sacks- but maybe that is also the by product of passing more and the deeper passes that take more time to develop. Surace will be the question mark next year but having Duff/Raymond/Benjamin back next year is pretty exciting.

Just to be clear, this wasn’t like the Michigan State game where we were dead under water and then got that shank TD on special teams to spark a comeback.

The score was tied. Purdue had no time outs remaining in our territory. If they don’t fumble there it’s now second down and long with the clock rolling. And somehow we have fans acting like Purdue just had to take a knee to win and dropped the ball. Our fan base really stinks.

When people make the statements like you are replying to- it shows they are either trolling or very low football IQ...That was just a very good defensive play where everyone on our defense did exactly what they get taught. Walker getting his hands up- Gnago with the strip and Elad getting on that ball.
Then after we get the ball- the OL did their job and Benjamin did his. - Schiano also did his job by end of game plan to make sure he had plays in there that would position Patel perfectly and called the TO correctly.

Only things you can complain about for yesterday is that we still give up those big plays and leave WR's completely uncovered. Yes- very valid complaint but what we also did was pretty much control the LOS. Outside of the big plays- we stuffed Purdue down. And on offense- we got a lot of yards on the ground and yet- not 1 run over 20 yards. That is an OL just doing it's job.

We also overcame a bunch of adversity in this game on the road. Passed up those points and didn’t convert the 4th. Missed the FG. Our offense committed a fumble of its own near midcourt at an awful time. All those things are momentum killers for sure.

This game was the definition of perseverance. Hopefully the relief of a victory loosens them up and it's go time!

What are your thoughts or Kevin’s on the OL/DL status (not necessarily this specific year). We definitely have made progress from 2020, but still think we aren’t anywhere we’re we need to be to truly compete in this league.

This offseason, the conversation needs to center squarely on one thing: improving the offensive and defensive lines. Every discussion, every bit of analysis, should revolve around who we’re targeting in the portal for the OL and DL — and, just as importantly, who we actually land. That has to be the primary focus.

I don’t care about which wide receiver, running back, or defensive back we add; even most of the skill-position talk should take a backseat. Maybe there’s some room to discuss linebacker additions, but that’s about it. The truth is simple — our issues in the trenches have held this program back for nearly a decade. Until those two units are fixed, we’ll never take the next step as a program.

A strong argument can be made that was the worst RU loss ever as Kansas at the time might have been the worst team in D1.
We didn’t just lose, they blew us out.

He barely watches Rutgers games anymore. So, no idea on his thoughts. And mine are not as sharp as they had been years back when I would literally rewatch every single play in slow motion with Kevin going through them with me. What I do say jokingly, do not let your kids grow up to be OL. And this is why - as OL, you play 70 snaps and if you have 1 or 2 bad plays but 68 good ones, only the bad plays are noticed. If you are DL and you play 50 snaps- you only need to have 1 great play out of those 50 and it is shown on every highlight film. lol

Our OL this year has played well. We have given up a lot of sacks but I do think many of those are because we go deep often and those plays are long to develop. You also have AK with the RPO and again, not the easiest to block for if it ends up a pass. But, the OL has been blocking well enough to have the 4th best YPG average in conference. Hard to find much fault if you are gaining 405 yards per game in B1G play. We have also had a lot of injuries on the OL as well.

Now, DL - That is the issue. And it sucks because we really thought we brought in a couple of guys that were going to be really good. They have been solid but not great. And the interior seems to be just like the DB's- they just don't seem to be in the right place at the right time.

And we also were blown out by Buffalo...AT HOME!! In that same season.

When people compare right now to Ash...SMH...we had one game this season where we weren't competitive. W/ Ash we were competitive not at all other than a few wins in 2017 and even then we lost to EMU.

This year we had one uncompetitive game versus a top 10 team. We hung in with two teams likely to be ranked (Iowa and UW) and lost by 3 to a decent Minny team on the road. We went to a bowl game the last 2 years. And may this year. Not close to Ash.

Any thought that he already had a "It's time to move on from Greg," column already written?

He would definitely love that drama and clickbaiting on that...but he'd also love the drama and suspense winning one more game between now and Thanksgiving and everything coming down to Cult...and winning there, maybe get an interesting Pinstripe opponent.
