Shooting concern

I’m sorry but adding the blue white in that is pretty funny.

I’ll be concerned when we play a game. I just can’t work myself up over exhibitions and I don’t even know what Pope was doing or tying to do. Let alone 3 future starters not even playing.
But I also remember Pope said Lowe was best 3pt shooter in 5v5 practices, so the stats in scrimmages are not unpredictable

Hard to really gauge. Honestly, Mark ran some really odd combinations out against Georgetown.
I suspect he was experimenting.

Now, it‘s time to get serious. Season opener on Tuesday, and, at Louisville in less than two weeks.

We shot over 37% last year … hopefully, we’ll shoot better in real games than we have so far in pre-season.

True but a lot of those high % guys from last year are no longer around.

I think we'll shoot better than we did in the exhibition tho

Yeah but he didn’t have much choice, we were missing everyone who can run our sets really. I think he should think about trying JJ at point. I just think he has a better natural feel to run a team than Chandler does. Also more talented one on one scorer.

The thing that bothered me the most about the loss to Georgetown, is not that we lost.
It’s that Georgetown just had more focus and intensity. I know Cooley is a really good coach.
He was intense the entire game, as was his team.

Our team and coach seemed to be going thru the motions.

That‘s unacceptable.

One day folks will realize this is not the NBA. Defense. Passing. Rebounding.

Three point shooting percentage is only relevant for teams that can’t rebound, pass and defend.

We do not hear CMP talk about emphasis on the three like he did last year. Perhaps he knows we will not be as good a shooting team … hard to really know.

Have not been able to get into offense without Lowe. Bad forced 3s off the dribble and shots taken in poor spots. Some hero shots as well.

Let’s get our All ACC Conference 16pt/g PG back in to settle things down. I expect it will balance the floor and get guys shots where the analytics show they make them.
Well-stated !!!! *^^^^

I wish UK practiced at Rupp. There is a difference between shooting in a small gym vs a cavern like Rupp.
It might help them shoot a higher %.
I know all things considered it may not be a critical thing but I believe it would help.

When we start taking better shots we’ll shoot a higher percentage. Having a quick PG on the floor to breakdown the defense will help.
Just want to add passing to that thought. Passing was always Kry's secret sauce. Spacing combined with passing makes a defense move. A moving defense makes mistakes. This yields better shoots.

Which we didn’t do at all last game. No passing, all one on one play which is why we didn’t make anything and looked terrible.

Noah missed his wide open shots. JJ will throw up anything, but a lot of our other 3's were open ones.

Definitely think it's a concern. You're kidding yourself if you think otherwise. Can't really come to a conclusion with the data so far though.

I have a feeling we'll settle for the year in the 30-35% range as a team, with games we are on fire and games we can't hit the broadside of a barn (like Georgetown). This team will brick us a few Ls chucking up bad shots.

Hopefully, our rebounding, free-throw shooting and defense have improved enough to allow us to win tough games when we shoot poorly.

Doesn't bode well for FT shooting so far either. Defense and rebounding definitely look to be better, but they sure looked lost vs Georgetown on D as well. Could be a fluke, but it's not like we have a young team that has that excuse. Defense is mostly effort and focus. Too many experienced guys to not have those two things.

We will shoot better when we start running better offense. We need guards. We hit 7 first half against G Town running **** offense. It will get there.
Yes. Chandler just could not run the point to get others open for good shots. Way too much dribbling.

Definitely need Lowe in a big way. He's experienced and a decent 3 point shooter by all accounts. More importantly he is a skilled PG That will definitely help run the offense.

Kam needs to settle down is the most obvious thing. He's a exceptional shooter but dang is he rushing everything badly.
Jasper is a little happy with it sometimes too, but he will undoubtedly go absolutely nuts in a few games this year as a microwave.

As a coach once said you don’t have to make them all…

I think this year’s team will be average maybe slightly below average overall when it comes to 3 point %. Not to say they won’t have games here or there where they shoot well. I do think Lowe being back will be a big help. Noah is going to have to hit shots or it’s going to be hard to play him. Williams needs to stop rushing and set his feet.

We need to slow down. Williams thinks he has to rush too much he's taken several bad step back/ side step 3s. He was like 2-11 dude was a 40+% shooter just needs to settle down.
Jasper can get out of control pretty bad too. Noah is trying to live up to the hometown hero mantra, he's been touted as this great shooter and he's undoubtedly feeling the pressure starting out 3-8 in exhibition play.
Really need atleast denzel back, but really would like lowe to be ready to go for UL

Yeah it seems like the speed of the game is too fast for him right now. I agree, every time he gets the ball he’s forcing shots. As you said he takes side steps, fadeaway, and step back looks that have little chance to go in. After the game slows down for him I think he will look better, but I hope that happens sooner rather than later because we got him to have size and shooting from that spot. His defense concerns me as well.

I would like for Ansley Almonor to talk with Williams and give him tips on how to adjust to playing for Kentucky and CMP. I think he could help him.
