Let's say Stans is let go... Who's on the short list of coaches we would go after?<div>
</div><div>IMO, I think we should go after Scott Drew. He has definitely turned the Baylor program around and made them competitive in the Big 12. He may be a long shot, but I think he'd be a great hire. He runs a solid offense and recruits the personnel to be a stingy defense.</div><div>

Took them from nothing to their 3rd straight NCAA Tournament this year. Their RPI is always good enough to get a decent seed, and they've made the round of 32 each of the last two years.

..the Pack needs to come to a consensus on who would be the best coach for the program. We all know that is how Byrne does his hiring.

I don't think either of them would be hated as much as Stansbury right now by MSU fans.

On a serious note, Mike Davis at UAB should be choice one, two, and three to me.

and this is the problem with canning Stansbury (who I am not a fan of), I'm not impressed with any of the names mentioned (except for Knight and that is a pipe dream). I think Stansbury is a good coach but not a great coach and we will make tournaments but not Elite 8's with him at the helm. The real question is can we as MSU ever get someone who can do that with any frequency

Knight is a "pipe dream", if anything we would be his "pipe dream". At one time he was a top tier coach, but that was 15-20 years ago, its not the same game it once was.If we do dump Stans in the next couple of years I'd like to see us hire a young guy with energy.

with your over-achieving mid-major coaches here.
I'm going outside the box: failed NBA coach.
You can all thank me later.

Mike Krzyzewski, Roy Williams, Billy Donovan, Rick Pitino, Bobby Knight, Jim Calhoun, John Calipari, Tom Izzo, Ben Howland, Lute Olson.... We are Mississippi State. Anything less than the best is unacceptable.

Holy 17ing ****.

He's won at UAB, playing in a **** league. Look at his tenure at Indiana (after Knight's players were gone). Disaster. He managed to f*ck up INDIANA. Well done. Imagine the carnage he'd leave at State.

Here are his last 4 years at IU, the first of which was after the appearance in the Championship game with Knight's players.

21-13 (8-8), lost in NCAA 2nd Round
14-15 (7-9)
15-15, (10-6) lost in NIT first round.
19-12, (9-7), lost in NCAA 2nd Round.

How is that an improvement over Stansbury? And he had IU's tradition and resources, and was coming off a NCAA Final Game appearance. Stansbury beats the **** out of that record, no matter what 4-year period you look at.

I was pissed beyond belief yesterday, but all this ridiculous talk about firing Stansbury is assinine. I don't care how ****** the SEC is in basketball (and this year it is a lot better than last year), men's basketball is the ONLY sport on campus - the only one, even including the minor ones - that we are even competitive in right now. Since the football division title in 1998, we have one a grand total of ONE division title in ANY sport outside of men's basketball - 2001 women's soccer. That's TWELVE years, folks. Every sport on campus is an absolute abortion right now. Football might be on the rise, but we are still a couple of years away from being considered as a threat to do anything except invade Shreveport during the holidays. Women's basketball has been pretty good, ok I'll grant that. Soccer, softball, volleyball, now even tennis - completely uncompetitive in the SEC. Baseball? A horror show. We are going to get ***-raped in the SEC this year.

I don't know what the answer is, but firing Stansbury now would look downright foolish in about 3-4 years.

i agree 100%. i would like to find a young coach that is at a smaller school now that has turned that program around and is now making the tourny pretty regular. if we can find a guy that has done that at a small school with a small athletic budget and minimal recruiting, he should do well here. but let me also say that i dont want a guy that has been winning his schools weak conference every year to just make it to the tourny then gets blasted in the first round, that would be the exact same coach as stansbury.

Those were good days. He did beat Joe B. Hall one time that I remember.

This seems more likely, as Stands is known as "a recruiter." A new strength coach would be on my to-do list regardless of last night. Side note.. if the NCAA would stop sucking wildcat c*ck and f*cking the bulldog, maybe last night would've turned out better and this conversation would not have occurred

Leave "folks" to Gene.

Like dawgstudent said, you know Gene means business when he goes "folks" on peoples' asses.

I would hate to think that would also apply to you.

Do you think people don't know what letters you left out? Does it make you feel better about yourself to say you didn't write the actual word out, while still leaving nothing to the imagination?

Took over a horrible NC State program and took them to 5 straight NCAA tourneys and a Sweet 16. Left and took over a horrible Arizona State program that had made one NCAA tourney in about 20 years, and is on the verge of getting them to the NCAA tourney back to back years. Is a real disciplinarian and can recruit well too. Also has roots in the SEC, was an assistant at UK under Pitino from 1989-93.

All of you = fail for not mentioning the obvious choice here.... STAN JONES! You may now continue with your regularly scheduled bitching.

OK. Not my pick, just disappointed you guys left him off the list.
