Sweet pic
Sweet 5.1 surround
True HD

For those of you still having PQ issues.
a) make sure the old coax cable in your attic or wherever is updated to new triple or quad shielded RG6 or RG11 (really thick stuff)
b) if you're using a non digital cable (analog) from your box to the TV, make sure that it is a high quality cable (www.bluejeanscable.com)
c) if you're running HDMI, make sure it fitted securely into both sides, many are so heavy you get a "handshake" deal going

for satellite users: TERK makes a nice, inline amp that does a good job

for cable users: there are many inline amps that can increase PQ on weaker band channels (www.ramelectronics.com)

With Directv, you pay a fee to get the box for your hosue, but you don't own it. It is the property of Directv. The basic boxes are free, but any HD or DVR boxes have lump sum, up front payments attached to them. So, you pay for the box, but you don't own it. The upside is you can trade it in as needed. I have replaced my DVR three times in two years. Twice because of problems with it, but the third time, I heard about an updated box. I called them, told them mine wasn't recording everything I scheduled. They sent me the newer version free of charge.

The obvious downside is you pay for a box you never own, AND they charge you for "extra boxes" so you are kind of leasing the box you bought. However, there is no contract.

If you call and say you're going to cancel your service unless they give you a better deal, they will give you almost any promotion you want to stay with them. It doesn't cost them hardly anything to send a signal through a wire to an extra house, so they want any and all dollars flowing from you that they can get. Threaten to cut them off, and they'll get desperate. If they say go ahead and cancel, cancel your service and get your wife/roommate/mother to sign up for all the new deals. Repeat as needed every 3 months.

For my TGI Friday's reference, just go to any Friday's and complain about your food to the manager in a polite way. You're guaranteed a comped meal. If you play your cards right, you could get a free appetizer coupon too.

This works at Chili's, too. My ex-sister-in-law almost always got her meals comped wherever she ate, Chili's in particular, just by complaining. The ***** She even pulled that on the airlines to get free tickets/upgrades, etc. I should have paid more attention to how she did it, now that I think about it.

But back to topic, Charter Cable is the local flavor of cable in our area. When I moved across town, I decided to go with DirecTV and keep the Charter Hi-Speed Internet. When I told this to the Charter rep, it was like a red alert went off with them and I got all sorts of offers, but never one sweet enough to compare to the DirecTV offer I was getting. Then they started bad-mouthing satellite, saying "Oooo, if it rains, you don't get a picture..." and crap like that. I've lost signal due to weather twice in the 5 months that I've had satellite, both during massive thunderstorms where I wouldn't want to have the tv on, anyways (yeah, I know, how would I know I lost signal if the TV wasn't on - just go with it). When I had cable, I lost signal much more frequently for some odd reason.

So far, DirecTV has been everything that I wanted my cable to be (but wasn't): Fantastic customer service, many more HD channels, more channels in general, better picture quality (HD and non-HD), better DVR, and better reliability of everything in general. Of course, this is compared to the local Charter Cable. I haven't had experience with Comcast or Cox Cable in years. The one problem I've had in the last day or so is that my HD DVR box is trying to do some sort of download, and it was "reminding me" last night every 20-30 minutes, which was annoying. I set it to download this morning, so maybe that issue is cleared up by now.

...and I switched to Comcast to take advantage of their 3/$99 deal and hopefully save some bucks. Those retards never could get anything right. It took them two months to port my phone over correctly and my internet was down half the time. I called them three months in and told them to come get their crap and I went back to DirecTV. Picture is far superior, there are more HD channels, and customer service is leaps and bounds better than those ******** at comcast. The only things comcast had going for themselves are the on demand channels and CSS, and neither are big deals to me. I'm actually paying less for the total choice premier package with HD/ DVR (everything) than my old man is paying for Comcast with only HBO/Starz. Comcast cable is a joke.

Southaven upgraded to the 1 OD channel a couple of months ago. It has taken a lot of getting used to. The extra steps are a pain in the ***. As far as the guide, mine has looked that way even before Comcast bought out Time Warner.

Is the new HBO on demand in HD, if so I will finally watch it.
I am an HD snob now and will not watch anything unless it is in HD.

I did not check mine this morning, but they made the upgrade right after midnight b/c my cable went out then....

On mine, HBO on demand is the only premium channel that does not offer an HD choice in demand. Even for the other channels the HD choices are limited.

Dude, we are talking about Jackson, not Meridian. Ours is changing because Jackson was Time Warner and Rankin County was on Suscom. Up until last night, both areas were using the old Time Warner setup. I'm hearing that this new craptacular guide is just temporary, but I've already put in an email to Comcast's CSR rep to get her answer. The rumor I heard was early 09, but I'm thinking they better work a hell of a lot faster to get this **** out because this current set up is atrocious. Also, I find it funny that there is no more On Demand content than there was before. There are 2 free HD "choices" at the moment and no more free movies than there were before. They better upload their library quick or this whole thing is a bust.
