Should sales of alcoholic drinks be allowed at SEC/UK sporting events?

Your logic is full of hole's when saying no one should have gun's.. Show me where a good man with a gun killed an innocent person except by accident!!
There are many killing's in Chicago alone from armed gang members. Crook's own guns' and they will always have a way of getting them. There fore I think I will keep my gun's for a time when that fool tries to rob me..

Ohh Lord!

Okay, first off...most people does not mean no one. Reading comprehension is your friend, not the enemy.

If you shoot someone by accident you still shot them. If you can't manage to own a gun without accidentally shooting someone, you are too foolish to own a gun. How do you not get that?

If I accidentally run a pedestrian over, do you really think I should be allowed to keep driving? What the hell does being good or bad have to do with it?

No, most crooks do not own guns. Can you please prove this statistic? Crooks are generally non violent offenders who take things that don't belong to them. Unless they are threatening your life in some capacity, you don't even have the right in most places to draw a gun on them, let alone shoot them.

Gang members in Chicago are among some of the most dangerous and savage. They will shoot your *** before you even know what is happening. If you did manage to fire back you will likely have several innocent people in the crossfire.

If someone wants to kill or harm you, they will do it while you are least prepared and most vulnerable. It's not like the movies where they square off with each other.

Unless you are acclimated to gunfire and active shooter situstions, you are almost guaranteed to be overcome with a high level of confusion, panic and shock. The only thought will be to run and hide. So no, the avg person owning a gun is of no benefit to anyone.

Guess what? The people who are problem drinkers are drinking before and during the game anyway. Also, there are close to 100 professional sports teams in the US that don't have issues with fans getting drunk and running over innocent bystanders. So the fear in this thread is unfounded by reality.

So yes, they should allow people to get overpriced beers.

I agree that running people over after the game isn't the REAL issue but behavior at the game is. I am not sure about the new stadium but I know the Vet had a courtroom inside the park to deal with rowdy fans. I think the headaches outweigh the benefits.

Maybe Rupp should be, you know, more rowdy.

Obviously you do not know me or anyone that is an honest gun owner with brain's to know how to use a firearm.. I still stand by what I said even though you miss understood my meaning or are to stupid to know how to protect your family. I have had lots of training on firearm safety and know when and how to use them in a safe manner.. If you don't like gun's that is your right and it is my right's to own as many as I want.. Thanks for the conversation and I will be done with idiot's like you...

I didn't realize we have so many preachers that are posting on this board. This has been has been a very educational thread. I own a lot of guns and shoot weekly at a shooting range on one of my farms. I usually have 10 or 12 friends join me and we have a great time. Everyone brings the beer of their choice and we all have a hoot of a time. This has been going on for months now and so far no one has shot anyone or ran over anyone leaving the range. I go to Reds and Bengal's games and usually drink beer before, during and after the game. So far, no one has attacked me, or bothered me in any way before, during or after the game. Hell the blue hairs at Rupp might wake up and cheer more if they were allowed to drink some alcohol. For those of you that don't own guns that is your choice. Just remember your statements in this thread if one of your family members is shot and killed while trying to protect their property and family from a criminal that has a Saturday Night Special. Guns Wins Every Time.

I have taken down the names of the preachers posting in this thread and will remind you to be nice the next time you post something attacking your fellow sober BBNM poster. I would guess that will be within the next 2-1/2 minutes of me posting this comment.

Yes. Sell beer, jack the price up to control demand, and all of the sudden you have a huge new revenue stream and a more lively atmosphere.

Lol, wow! You can't read; can't spell; can't use proper grammar; aren't smart enough to differentiate between active shooter situations and shooting ranges and you believe owning a firearm is the best or only way to protect your family, yet in your world it's everyone else who is stupid. :joy:

This ladies and gentleman is exactly what is wrong with our world today. And sadly the rest of us are forced to share oxygen with him.

"Beer is proof that God loves us and wants us to be happy." -Benjamin Franklin

FWIW, that's a fake quote. Franlkin never sad it.

Just one of several fake quotes that have been attributed to ole Ben over the years.

No. I can pretty much take my kids to a college event and not worry too much about dealing with drunk idiots. I wouldn’t dare take them to a pro sporting event besides a baseball day game.

The weirdness of some people here astonishes me.

What do you think happens at pro sporting events? Drug fueled, orgies or something???

It's really quite bizarre.

Yes. As many have said, it's 2019 and at virtually every college or pro sporting event, you can have a drink...except in the SEC. Hell, you can get alcohol at EKU games for Christ's sake. SEC needs to get with the times.

Yes. For several reasons.

1. Revenue
2. It seems like this is a Bible Belt “blue law”
type rule. The blue law era is long gone.
3. Prohibition doesn’t work. Alcohol still makes its way into venues. Might as well profit from it.
4. If the beer is cheap enough, maybe SEC fans from other schools will start attending basketball games when someone other than UK is on the schedule.

Yeah but I think there should be a limit, some people really don’t know how to handle there alcohol

And how exactly do you implement that?

I really don't care either way. I don't like beer (the taste), but I know many do. I can't say I would enjoy being around an obnoxious drunk at a game, although it would be a good point to show the kids (do you want to be like this guy?), nor the increased chances of having a drink spilled on me. But I don't want to infringe on anyone's rights either. It would be added revenue.
IMO, if you need to drink to enjoy a sporting event, then you aren't there for the event, you are there to get drunk, and can do that anywhere.

Worst experience I ever had at a ballgame was at Papa Johns watching UK/UofL play football. Lot of fights and near fights, and - shockingly - from what I could tell, every incident where someone was acting the fool, alcohol was involved. Grown men getting in the faces of women and and at least one child. No exaggeration there. I swore I'd never go back, and I haven't. Most of that would have been avoided if they didn't sell alcohol at the game.

There is already alcohol in certain club/suite levels at games; don't you find it pretty hypocritical they can have it there, but not for the general public?

And if you have ever been to a SEC football game, you know people are getting alcohol into the games.

My allowing sales at games, you could curtail binge drinking in the parking lots, for people having "one last one" before they go in. Plus it could help with attendance (to a very small amount).
I don't necessarily agree with it but comparing general seating to the club suites is like comparing a bicycle to the space shuttle. There just isn't a comparison.

I know that people will get alcohol into games but providing it for them will only increase the problems that arise from it. If it's not allowed at least they will try to conceal it to some extent including concealing their behavior. Openly providing it doesn't mean you control it better. In many cases it would have the exact opposite reaction.

NO NO NO NO NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Why? Making it easier to get drunk will only hurt fans around them and open the door to more DUI's and innocent people losing their lives.

With that said, it will be approved for the sake of the all-mighty dollar. Just like gambling will be to the detriment of the people who need their money the most.

I don't have an issue with it as long as it's served responsibly.

I don't drink personally and don't necessarily understand the appeal of having to drink alcohol at a sporting event, but I also don't think those of legal age should be denied it.

As long as nobody is served who clearly should not be. There are already a few who get in after getting hammered tailgating who can, at times, make the game more difficult to enjoy with their antics. My family had an issue with a group of college age guys at the Miss St football game last year because they were clearly drunk and being ********. Eventually security saw them out as they began to annoy literally everyone around them, not just us.

Keep in mind that that my dad is 6'4", 260. My brother is 6'2", 240. I am 6'2", 210. We dwarfed these dudes but they acted like they really wanted to throw down while we were trying to enjoy the game, because, alcohol tends to do that to some folks.

I think that has more to do with the fan base and less to do with the alcohol.

I read an article several years ago about the benefits of selling alcohol at football games. I think it was from the University of Colorado. They studied several schools that went from not serving alcohol to serving it and found that serving alcohol at the games lowered the number of alcohol related incidents noticeably. It actually helped reduce the number of people that were getting loaded before the game, and as it has been mentioned, most people aren't going to drop $80 on beer to get loaded inside.

100% no !!! Too many people squeezing into close quarters. Big mouth A Holes are just made that much more A Hole’ish when drunk. Certainly people can enjoy a game without drinking and imposing on the enjoyment of others around them.
Alcohol make me much more enjoyable to be around. Having a few beers helps me tolerate A-holes that think they know best.

Exactly. beer prices at sports venues are so ridiculously high the average fan can’t afford to drink enough to get drunk if he wanted to.

Last week I bought one single beer for $15.50 at a Red’s game. They’re begging me to sneak in alcohol.

Most of the Middle East doesn’t allow it at all.

I very much appreciate the SEC not allowing alcoholic beverages at games, I have taken my granddaughter to many UK/SEC tournament games as she was growing up and we have thoroughly enjoyed it. The only incident we have ever been involved in was at the 2012 NCAA NC game in NOLA when a drunk spilled his mixed drink all over my granddaughter at age 8, of course he didn't do it purposely but it very much upset her and I went and bought her a new tee shirt and a nice lady took her in the ladies bathroom and cleaned her and she put the new Tee on and discarded the old one. We went back to our seats and here comes the drunk again and tried to force his way in, I asked him nicely to wait until she could get out of her seat and out in the aisle where he would have a open trail...by this time many people including the ushers where watching the scene, and he tried to force his way past me so I pinned him against the rail until she got out then released him and on his way he went. I would hope folks that enjoy their alcoholic beverages could do without them for the two hours or so that it takes a game to be played, so these type scenes wouldn't happen.

Wow! that’s crazy, i thought they were like $9. i’ve only been to gabp once, and although nice, i don’t care to ever go again, mainly because of the price of concessions.
I spent a lot of time at riverfront stadium in the 70’s and could afford to go as often as i liked and eat and drink as much as i liked, even as a working stiff with a house payment and other expense that goes with being a newlywed with baby on the way.
It’s no wonder they rarely fill the place nowadays.

Maybe going to a gun free country might be your friend, guns have been a part of this country since the time the first one was produced , the second amendment was established so that we as free men could enjoy hunting, shooting, owning and most of all protecting us from our enemies whether they be domestic or foreign. I have owned guns from the time I was 12 years old and am now 64 in that time no one has been killed by any of these guns. I also have 33 Mexican men that legally come to this country and work on our farm, they are not permitted to own firearms in their country, they tell me horror stories on how the drug cartels come to their villages and shoot people down just for target practice and most of them have family members who have been shot down for no reason. I am not going to tell you or anyone else to own a firearm and I dont want you or anyone else telling me I cant. I will promise you the day will come if we continue on the trail we are on now you will wish you had someone with a gun protecting you.
