If the person will be a detriment to this society, is the United States obligated to maintain its strength and integrity?

What are American ideals to you?
How would someone be determined a detriment?
I think to many Greek immigrants and their families I know. Many still speak Greek in the home, embrace the nuclear family concept (multi-generational) long abandoned by most of the US, still maintain a concept of Greece as "home" and still visit as often as they can and keep their home and religion as Greek as possible.

Yet they are the most productive "Americans" you'd want to meet with respect for the US and everything it has afforded them. But I don't think they'd fit into the OP's mold of ideals.

I have had two Muslims on my team at various points and I can say the same about them. One from Bosnia and the other from Iran. In fact, my friend Hassan is as good a guy as one could ever meet. And his wife is hot.

Even in their more moderate countries, Islam has religious and governmental pieces parts. Sharia is the most visible and extreme. If Islam expects to incorporate their own law into every country they have a population, is that compatible with our way of life? If not, why would we let them in in any more than minuscule amount to begin with?

Do their ideals include killing homosexuals and stoning women?

Have you seen his wife or is she required to wear a burka outdoors?[winking]
