Should we decline the NIT?

YES. Bost has already said he doesn't want to play, and I doubt the rest of the team feels any different. We should bow out and let some worse team that wants to be there take our spot. It's not like we'd win more than one game anyway.

didn't want to play tonight, if you didn't notice. We don't deserve to be in the NCAA. Piss on the NIT. I'm done.

what Bost wants. He won't be here next year anyway. Play whoever wants to improve. Deville, Steele, Hood, Lewis,Johnson could all use the extra practices and games. Maybe rest Hood though so idk who that leaves us but some of those names really need more work.

Edit to add I voted no. We aren't Kentucky, MSU never turns down the NIT.

I just witnessed the worst game we have played all year. I hope it is the last game of the year. With everything that was on the line, we didn't care. We flat out didn't care. I think with all of the newness we have coming in we have to fire Stansbury. No way we can keep him. At least with a new coach, Hood has a chance to become an overall better player. I thought we were a better team then this but it looks like it was just lip service from the team. Very disappointed with the year but glad it is over. No way we deserve an NCAA bid and accepting an NIT bid at this point would be a slap in the face. It's really quite sad if you want to know the truth. Stans really has done a lot for this university. But he should really just retire and at least save some of his dignity instead of making Scott fire him. It's a shame because IMO Sidney was the end for Stans. He hooked himself up to that wagon gambled and lost big.

I don't, I'd rather give him the opportunity to play his way back on this team for next year. I'd also like to see Johnson get some minutes to improve. We are Mississippi State. I doubt the NIT likes having a school turn them down. Best to not burn any bridges.

but Deville playing his *** off and I don't know doing something like winning the NIT for us would sure put a lot of bullets in his gun when next years decision of will he be allowed back happens. If he's still on the team right now then he still has the opportunity to win his spot back. Even if the decision has already been made the fact he's still on the team right now means he still has an opportunity to change the coaches minds. If Deville averages 20 points over a 4 game NIT stretch do you really think they wouldn't reconsider his dismissal? If its Deville's decision and not the coaches then it doesn't matter.

I have no desire to watch this team in an NIT game, but I would want to see what happens if we basically force hood to be the man. Probably have to play players like Deville and Sidney also, even though they may not be back, just to have enough bodies. If Bryan Bryant wanted to play and we needed an extra body, I'd be up for him playing too.

What good will practice do for players under a coach that won't be here for next year?
so, all we need to do is hire the best coach in the world andour team will succeed without having to practice? great concept.

if Bost, Moultrie, Sid don't want to play, then get Deville on the court and let's get ready for next year.

wreck of a team. Putting them out on the court only gives more negative publicity. As for pissing off the NIT, who cares if they ever invite us again? Nobody cares about the "Not Good Enough To Get in THE tournament anyway.

Of course practice is good, but believe it or not, but practicing when your heart isn't in it does you no good what so ever. At this point... if we don't make the NCAA's we'll have a bunch of players feeling like they're playing in a tournament that's beneath them. All you'll see is them going through the motions with no effort what so ever. At this point... how is that really so dumb?

...I can think of no greater punishment for these prima donna underachievers than to watch them being forced to participate in the NIT.

This isn't like football where you get an extra spring practice to work on developing younger players. You're going to get 1-3 practices before your first NIT game. And those are going to be spent getting ready for the game, not developing players.

more PT =more experience, etc. being Deville is going to be the vital ingredient next year, getting him a ton of minutes in the NIT(again, game PT, not practice) the better. not practicing and not playing doesn't help develop the guys coming back next year.

for all you saying we should forget the NIT, ifMullen's bunchgo 6-6 next year and end the season with a disappointing loss in the egg bowl that leads to an invite to Shreveport, should we decline? i don't see a significant difference bt those two scenarios minus the coach and sport.

it still seems to me that it's up in the air whether or not he's going to get kicked off the team. And the rest of that "developing experience" point just sounds stupid to me. Given our current situation, if we're really going to accept the NIT bid we might as well sit (or at the very least extremely limit the playing time of) Bost, Moultrie and possibly Renardo since it's a good possibility we'll lose all 3 of them.<div>
</div><div>If we're really worried about gaining game time experience for the players we got coming next season then we need to give them much more playing time than what we've been giving them up to this point. I don't care if it's in the NIT, but I would definitely bet money against as early in the first round if we limit a main chunk of our offense just to give younger players experience.</div><div>
</div><div>Besides... now you're talking about the NIT when your original angle was practice initially? Make up your mind. I just don't agree that either in this situation is going to be worth much of anything. The season is dead for this coaching staff, players and university. Might as well pull the plug because nothing good will come from prolonging it.</div>
