No, why should Willis start? Because he hit 3's against KU? 1. His defense is pitiful (I know he isnt the only one who is bad on D) 2. He only brings it when he wants too. 3. It isnt like he hits shoots like that every game. 4. He's had plenty of ops to show he can contribute consistently. 5.Gabriel is way more productive than him overall.

Both have limitations,we don't get a total package or consistent play from either.Their playing time is almost dead even(within a minute per game) They play their position in tandem for a reason, neither can claim ownership of that spot, that probably isn't going to change. It is toss-up each game to figure which one is most on his game that day. Cal really can't even look at match-ups to help him make the choice,it's just play them both and see what happens.

You do realize that some of these fans want to change the line up every time someone has a good scoring game right? They don't pay attention too any of the other things they just care about how much you score

DW 51% FG/ 40% from 3/ 73%FT
WG 44% FG/ 30% from 3/ 60% FT

I feel like the offense flows much better with DW. Sometimes WG looks indecisive.
I like Gabriel and he definitely needs to play, but to say he brings way more to the table is huge stretch. Before the season started everyone talked about his great motor with the ability to guard 3 positions. Ive seen glimpses of his motor, but his defense isnt any better than DWs at this point

Hate to break it to you, but Gabriel, at least based on stats, is not way more productive. If you break their numbers down by a per-minutes played basis, Gabriel has an advantage in rebounds (0.295 vs 0.236), assists (0.051 vs 0.036) and blocks (0.056 vs 0.051). Willis has an advantage at points (0.389 vs 0.277... the most significant difference in per-minute stats) and steals (0.029 vs 0.026). In addition, Willis is shooting 51/40/73 (fg/3pt/ft) vs Gabriel's 45/30/60.

Defense is a bit more subjective (I didn't try and find advanced defensive stats), but I think most can agree that neither is lighting the world on fire. You can argue for either starting, but let's not say one is significantly more productive than the other as the stats don't support this at all.

Willis can start if you want him to start, it's ok with me. I would like to see him come off the bench, but I really don't know why I feel that way. Maybe, he could start then come out of the game then go back into the game. That would make me happy. Would it make you happy? Let Cal coach, please.

He could start to come off the bench, but then return to the bench but start the second half.Would that count as doing both?

We need closers!! Not sure changing starters is really going to help much. We have looked pretty good in the start of most of our games this season. Even against the top teams we seem to get going pretty well and build a size-able lead. We seem to have a problem maintaining the lead and closing out games.

I just want anyone who can play defense, or even care on defense and have a little pride in playing defense.

They're both playing the roles they should. They are both obviously flawed and inconsistent, so you figure out which one of them is playing better that night and ride them.

No..I don't care he hit 5 threes in one game. His defense is so bad it's basically 5 on 4. I mean it's horrific. Quit possibly the worst I've seen at the division 1 level. It's really his off ball and help defense. He has zero awareness. He gives up more than he scores. He also is too lazy to block out. I'd rather lose with SKJ taking his minutes.

Honestly......and I know many are gonna bash the hellooo out of me for this but I think Cal may have ruined him. He was always the whipping boy....held to a different standard and on such a tight leash yanked immediately for any mistake when others higher rated recruits made the same mistakes and played on. I never posted this but thought he should have transferred after his sophomore year. Bash away....just my opinion.

I agree, he would have been much better off at another school. I think he could have been one hell of a player! No confidence at all, always thinking too much trying not to make the mistake that lands him on the bench. Hell I don't care if anyone bashes me. Lots of A-holes on this board!

Absolutely should start over Gabriel... Both struggle on D but Willis is a better shooter, passer and by far more experienced....

Okay....now calm down but just putting this out there to see what folks think? Should they try adjusting the starting line up? Willis seems slowly to be coming on and progressing. That said I love Gabriel too and the energy he brings. Regardless think they should be looking for Willis more at the end of games and looking for a better shots. Just my take though. Thoughts?
If I thought Gabriel would be back next year, I would start him. If thinking just this year, I believe I would start Willis.
