Shouldn't MSU have better success with kids from EMCC (Scooba) being so close?

Seems like a lot of big schools are getting players there, besides us. Also, Jackie got several players from KS JuCos, do we still attempt to recruit there? I know JC's are not as prevalent in our system anymore, but a few good ones could make a difference.

I am sure there are many on here who know more than I do, but I think many go there with a closer connection that is publicly known. Like we have "sign & place guys" others do to. EMCC has their own network to maintain as well. Not as simple as it may appear.....Than, I may be all wrong.

It's not just Scooba. We don't get any JUCO's anymore.

Kansas JUCO's just don't produce anymore either. A buddy of mine was on MGCCC's last title game and he said KSU was on campus pretty much inviting the entire team to join them, if that's any indication.

I think not having many coaches from here hurts us. The last time we were successful grabbing JUCO's was when Hud was at State. If you look at his recruiting classes at ULL he signs 2 or 3 MGCCC guys every season. I'm not trying to say "hire Hud!" but the fact is that he was a Mississippi product with a lot of connections in the NJCAA ranks. Coach relationships matter even more in junior colleges than they do in high school. Fact.

Up until a couple seasons ago JUCO coaches were able to call dibs on kids in their district, so I don't know how much "sign & place" really had to do with which place they ended up in. For out-of-state signees (Darius Slay) I think it is a completely different story. I have no idea how that works out now, but again I think not having many connections from our staff hurts. Steve down at MGCCC is always going to advise his kids to go to Bama, LSU, or Georgia when they have the chance. He has the #1 JUCO guy this year and he's headed to either Auburn or LSU.

He should be the OL coach at MSU for multiple reasons.

Until our coaches get their heads out of their behinds (which finally seems to be happening at Scooba, at least) and start treating these JUCO staffs with a little more respect, that won't change.

There are a lot of guys from out of state who are placed at JUCO's in Mississippi, just as there are guys placed at Hargrave. I'm sure that the staffs are going to do evertything they can to make sure those teams who placed players at thier schools get the opportunity to resign them.

People get blinded by the geography of it all and start assuming. Some think that just because a kid goes to EMCC, he magically becomes a MSU fan. Not the case at all. The upper crust of those players are not even from Mississippi or even MSU fans. Hell, we got the #1 JUCO player in the country from there a couple years ago.
