Shriners Losing Out At MSU Games?

I have had a person involved with the Shriners group tell me that the Shriners, who work as a not-for-profit to benefit children's healthcare charities, have been replaced as MSU home football ticket takers after 21 years, in favor of a private group out of Birmingham.

Anyone with any information on this?

If it is true, it does not seem to be a positive step. Surely there is more to this.

If this is true, and I start getting my bourbon and/or cowbell taken up I'm going to be pissed. Our football team sucks too bad for them to start cracking down on booze in DWS

to making the MSU gameday experience second to none. It starts at the top and rolls down to the coach, the PA announcer, even the ticket takers.

If the information I have been given is acurate, this committment could cost the Shriners' kids about $35 per ticket taker, per game, per sport involved.

Was there a problem with the gameday exprience with the Shriners?

Is the new company going to offer an upgrade in my experience?

I am all for Byrne and his changes so far, but some changes have unintentional impacts which may not be clear at first glance.

but my only thought is that maybe those of the older generation had trouble with the scanners.

to the shriners in lieu of using their volunteers to take tickets and the shirniers will continue to have visibility inside the gates. Anyone bitching is bitching about not getting into the games for free anymore, not that they are taking money away from the kids.

But, if we're fulfilling (and especially exceeding) their former donation/payment, then I don't see a problem with it. I like the old guys, but they for damned sure had problems with the scanners. To the point of just telling me and my wife to go on in 5 of the 6 games last year cause he couldn't get it to scan.

While a donation to the Shriners would be great if it is fact, the "bitching" was a question as to whether there were another reason for the change, as the passive donation of thousands to a worthy charity is being sent--not only to a private firm, but an out of state one at that. Do you really think the Shriners are that despirate to get in free?

Actually, the person who voiced the complaint to me is an elderly nurse who volunteers her time working not only for the Shriners but also for the local clinic for no pay or benefits...Her motives are a little less selfish than that.</p>

I'm pretty sure he was talking about the ticket-takers letting people in the gate without a ticket. Not the ticket-takers getting in for free.

I get truly angry when Universities in Mississippi consistently outsource theirjobs to companies from the state of Alabama and usually from Birmingham.

This **** pisses me off. I'd rather them part time hire students than do that.

we need all the jobs we can get in Mississippi. **** like that is the reason the state of Alabama is nicer than Mississippi.

Giving jobs to Alabama is terrible. 17 you Greg Byrne. What's so damn hard about scanning tickets that you have to outsource to Alabama? No one in the state of Mississippi can scan some 17ing tickets???

I don't much like having a cult working our games. Why not the Scientologists? Shrines and their damn fezes and little cars creep me the hell out.

When they let the Shriner Clowns work the gates, they really underestimated the creepiness.
