I think it was a case of getting what you can if you're Beamer. This level of coaches is the best he can do.When is the last time he had a dynamic high scoring offense? Think this was another case of “settling”.
Yeah I still think it's somewhat a hard sell to get an experienced OC to come work for a former position coach.I think it was a case of getting what you can if you're Beamer. This level of coaches is the best he can do.
Exactly! Where was Brady Hunt last night? One of our best plays vs VT was the dink pass to the TE and I didn't see it at all last night. This is a play we should run until the other team stops it.
Then we can move to exploit their adjustment.
Shula's plan last night was a mystery to me!
Can’t depend on punt returns to win games. Even going back his head coaching days, really no evidence of creative design nor play calling. Definitely no evidence of high scoring offense. Feels like low hanging fruit. Maybe if the o line performed on at least a region 5 AAAA high school level that solves it all.I saw where Brad Crawford made a post (don’t recall which social media account) showing that Shula’s O put up 17pts in the bowl, against VT, and now against SCST.
Out D has looked pretty decent thus far, but 17pts is pretty poor and isn’t going to win many games this season.
I am not sure that we will compete with Vanderbilt next week. The team that has showed up the last two weeks will not.Yeah, Beamer can only get 2nd rate coaches. You guys were criticizing Loggains as well. I’m not crazy about our run design plays and would prefer more motion and sets. So I hope we make some changes there.
But as far as comments like that’s the best Beamer can get….we are ranked in the top 10, and missed the playoffs by a play last year. We have good coaches and many that played in the NFL.Why don’t some of you try and cut Beamer some slack and get behind the team
Whining bunch of girls. How will we ever compete with Vanderbilt next week?

Run a play that works until the other team stops it? Has an OC at USC ever done this? One of our best plays vs VT was the dink pass to the TE and I didn't see it at all last night. This is a play we should run until the other team stops it.

I prefer not to evaluate Shula considering the offensive line situation that he has inherited. It will be next season before I do that. Of course that's assuming that Beamer finally cleans up the OL situation, which has been a weakness since the UNC game 2 years ago. Last season, Sellers bailed out the OL with his athleticism. I don't believe we have that luxury this year, as opponents have had lots of time to study how to defense Sellers. In the meantime, I think we are in for a long season, starting Saturday against Vanderbilt. I would love to be proven wrong. When is the last time he had a dynamic high scoring offense? Think this was another case of “settling”.

The main judgement I'm making is the OC failed to run a play he knows has been successful. Maybe SCSU was prepared, and he saw it, but you have to test them and make them stop it. And overall, I still don't know what the gameplan was to begin with and it's likely the OL failures made his plan useless, so I'll give Shula that much. This is true. It's hard to gage a gameplan when the OL has such issues.

Back to a statement I've made before in other threads, loyalty to bad coaches leads to failure and demonstrates that your loyalty is misplaced!
The HC loses, the other good coaches lose, the team loses, and the fans lose.
What's funny to me is that one of the most ardent sunshine pumpers on the old site was the vehement champion of the "this is the best Beamer can get" thought process, with Loggains being the prime example.
When Nebraska "stole" Satterfield, and we hired the so called worst signal caller in the NFL, his hiring was supposedly proof of Beamer being hamstrung by subpar hiring that weren't his fault.
Thank you. Seems like many are dismayed that our historically top ten program has fallen into the shatter. It’s entertaining though, you have to admit.Yeah, Beamer can only get 2nd rate coaches. Why act so insolent? Shula is not a newby. He was the HC at Bama and has had extensive experience as an offensive coordinator and QB coach in college and the NFL. So far, he's averaging 17 points/game for us, and the difference between him and the last guy is more than noticeable. He's not above critique.Thank you. I agree. On,I believe it was the first pass during the first possession when Sellers threw a crossing to Adaway; the Tight End was wide open on the right side in the flat. With his size and speed, I believe he would have made the first down from there. Adaway should have caught the ball, but he was covered up pretty well and prob would not have gotten the first down. It appears to me that this team cannot run. Run game is not very good. Wish Rocket Sanders was back. One of our best plays vs VT was the dink pass to the TE and I didn't see it at all last night. This is a play we should run until the other team stops it.

That goes back to our obvious OL issues.Probably going to echo many thoughts that have aired. But the game plan and play calling against a team like SC State after a 2+ hour delay isn’t a concern to me, especially with the injuries that occurred.
The only concerning thing is we couldn’t run the ball up and down the field on these guys. That has to be the most alarming aspect.
He’s not below defending either, and therein lies the rub; to you he’s incompetent because of your stats, to me he’s a gamecock who I’ll defend. Naive? Whatever; don’t care. I’d rather talk football than rattle sabres and gnash teeth about that which we know little about. Why act so insolent? Shula is not a newby. It's called 2 dimensional thinking. Do the thing we didn't do last week because they won't be expecting it.One of our best plays vs VT was the dink pass to the TE and I didn't see it at all last night. This is a play we should run until the other team stops it.

Many OCs have great playbooks and understand offense, but they can't teach it or coach it. (See, Satterfield)

We have one fatal flaw for certain on this staff and possibly two. Your bravado will not suppress their deficits. But you and Beamer are blessed to currently be holding the injury card should y'all need to use it. The AP voters, at least, are beginning to apprehend the truth.Yeah, Beamer can only get 2nd rate coaches. You guys were criticizing Loggains as well. Loggains was a damn good playcalling coach for us. As soon as Beamer hired him, I found myself and others having to defend him before he ever called a play. This board doesn’t judge by their eyes, they judged by what “ they” said. Early during last season playcalling was good, execution and blocking was bad. We will see if Shula is good by the end of the year. For now, the Shane bashing is comical. What's funny to me is that one of the most ardent sunshine pumpers on the old site was the vehement champion of the "this is the best Beamer can get" thought process, with Loggains being the prime example.

Doesn't hurt to show something we've already shown, especially since it worked very well. How much did you expect the offense to show against SC State? The sky's not falling. Yet.
There was a healthy dose of skepticism when Shula was hired and that was reinforced in the bowl game. Somehow over the course of the summer, it came to be seen as a good hire. The reality check has hit hard.Inability to run the ball should have the OC, OL and RB coaches scared to death but they aren't.
The OL needs to be whipped into shape for Vandy. Maybe the DL coach can do something with them.
Well, it's quite the predicament we are in. The OC may not be very good, but we can't judge him b/c the OL sucks so bad. And the OL sucks so bad b/c we brought back an OL coach who we all know sucked. So now we have to hope that Beamer finally fires Teasley this off-season so we can evaluate Shula next year. But that will be the new OL coach's first season, so we'll likely have to wait until 2027 to find out of the new OL coach is any good, which means we have to wait until 2027 to find out if Shula is any good.I prefer not to evaluate Shula considering the offensive line situation that he has inherited.
