Would be awesome to see the entire stadium in black. No chance it happens, but would be cool if our fans would do it.

I'd be much more interested in a no-sit Saturday with the fans cheering the team on at full-tilt.

Since I'll be watching on TV, I actually think the black-out attempts don't look nearly as good on TV as all red, so I tend to not really love the blackout efforts.

Whats our record in 'blackout' games?
You may be joking, but I was curious, so I did my best to look it up (without spending more than 15 minutes doing it.)

From the best I can tell, the first blackout occurred in 2008 against Virginia Tech. Huskers lost 35-30. In 2011, the Huskers again formed a blackout but it was on the road vs. Wisconsin. Wisconsin won 48--17. In 2013, UCLA beat Nebrska 41-21. Seems possibly the Huskers were successful in 2014 in a home game vs. Miami, winning 41-31.

The blackout may have happened in more games than these, but I had seen all I needed to see. It doesn't seem that it's a real winning formula.

Also, I understand Husker fans wearing black on the road at Wisconsin to differentiate the number of Husker fans on their field, but when we are in Lincoln, why not force Wisconsin to change their color?

I think the stadium all blacked out would look amazing. Yes we have the sea of red and its there every home game. Recruits like this kinda stuff. I do agree that outside the student section there will be patches scattered around the stadium. And won't amount to much

how are other schools like penn st, ou, or even Iowa able to get entire sections wearing the same...do they give away shirts on the way in?

Did AD Tommy-boy approve this? I am guessing the backlash from the TC gets this shut down

Thanks for your effort on this. I really don't care one way or the other what they do, but your analysis just backs up my general feeling that it usually hasn't benefited us. I also remember the 2010 texass loss which was a 'red out around the world' and I was there for our 1984 loss to Oklahoma which might not have been a 'blackout' but they had some blackshirt bandana thing they were doing.

All that would do is piss off the miserable people even more. I can hear the bitching and tantrums now....

Once every 2 or 3 years is fine, but do we have to do it every year? Red is just fine.

Blackouts suck. Now we are changing our colors because of Wisconsin? Things have changed.

I attended the Oregon game with a friend who had season tickets. In our section that day, you were supposed to wear yellow (as noted on the ticket for the game). The next section over was green that day. I wore red, of course.

Yea!! Just what NU needs more gimmicks and marketing. I wish they would focus on good fundamental football more....
How do you think the freaking fans and student section need to "focus on fundamental football more"? Do you understand this was not put out by the team, coaches, or AD Tommy-Boy?
See, that's what Husker Nation and the TC really is. A bunch of miserable people looking for a reason to get angry about something. For Christs sake, lighten up Francis.

Maybe you're joking, but first, I believe this is a student group promoting this. Second, do you not believe an athletic department can coach football and market itself at the same time?

I am not in favor of the blackout but let's keep our criticisms fair please.

Maybe Husker fans should applaud the students that actually go to the games because they could be at the library or in the dorms studying for their tests. Winking

I agree blackouts suck. On tv they look awful. We're the sea of red. Let's keep it that way.

And please-- Hawkeye-- nobody here gives a rats a** what your stadium looks like.

That's a stadium?

This would be awesome if it happened but it never will. Hell, thousands of fans don't even wear read to home games; I always see people in white, grey, black, etc. An all red stadium would be awesome but we can't even do that.

If only the coaching staff would focus less on marketing and more on football... sigh.

Wear BLACK to support the team and students you stodgy bastards.

Remember the players are students too.

Pass the word to everyone you know to wear BLACK Saturday night. No matter if they go to the game or watch it on television.

Let's come out of the usual routine and get some crazy on.
