for next year. Now that Sidney knows he will be able to play and a full year in the weight program we have a potential 20/10 player. The key to this team will be how the hurt players come back from injury. I have the most concerns about Bailey because of the multiple injuries and Smith since he seems to stay hurt.

By the time SEC play gets here we could be looking at a starting five of
C- Sidney
PF- Augustus
SF- Johnson
G- Bost
G- Bryant
with a solid bench of Turner, Osby, Bailey and Benock.

I hate it for him, but I just don't see Bailey contributing much next year. Lewis showed flashes of solid post play last year, and I think lots of early minutes (in Sidney's absence) will help him further develop.

I think your conference starting 5 is right on. I just hope that Bryant is a solid defender and a decent ballhandler.

on the Bailey observation but I hope that he is able to return to form because he gives us some toughness down low. If Lewis can bulk up after a year in the weight program then we would have two good garbage/defender types to compliment the inside/outside games of Sidney and Augustus. From the articles on Bryant he appears appears to be a good ball handler and defender. I just hope he is the leader that his coach says he is. That was missed in a big way this past year.

Bailey is just an idiot and will be our Riek from this year. Bailey will play some minutes but don't see him contributing much... Lewis will be good for us.

Bailey is an idiot for ignoring doctors orders to not play pick up games at the Sanderson Center after he hurt his ankle, he did. Injury #2 - ACL - was the same thing, playing pick-up games at the Sanderson, when told not to.

I may be remembering his minutes through maroon glasses. Plus, it's not like he really played much at all anyway. But I did limit the statement to flashes of only "solid post play" -not dominance, but just a decent big guy who can hold his own for a while.

Maybe it's the effort I remember. He has a big frame and is fairly athletic and mobile for his size. I think (read: hope) that he will develop enough during the non-con schedule next year thathe can be effectivefor about 10-12 mpg next year, in a rotation at the 4/5 with Sidney, Augustus, Osby, and maybe Riek and Bailey. Though I don't expect any meaningful minutes from the latter 2. I also don't expect any offense from Lewis, other than the occasional rebound and putback. Which probably means he'll be the screener at the top of the key, so that both defenders can guard Bost off the screen...

Rick was fond of saying that Lewis was the kind of recruit that were going to have opponents saying "who is this guy when he was a sophomore or junior." After watching his freshman year I am more concerned that the same question will be asked by our fans for the next three years. I do agree that he has the frame and some athleticism. He has a loooooong way to go before he can ever be considered a scoring option in the post and a capable defender. His three trips against Kentucky in the Hump last year resulted in a Kentucky mini-run. I seem to recall complaining about that in either chat or on the board.
