Sidney's Conditioning

This topic has been briefly touched on from time to time in this giant cluster17 of a situation, but if what Stans said in the teleconference today is true, why in the hell is Sidney not in some sort of shape? I understand he may not be at the same level as the team but is he doing anything? And what does that say about Stans if he "anticipated since November 13th" that Sidney would be cleared and has no clue to the shape he's in?

Do you think Balis would have let a player slack his way through the season if there was a remote possibility he could play?

All Sidney should have been doing this whole time is working out. What the hell else does he have to do? Dude should be in the best shape of his life right now.

saturday and while he may be in great shape, he looked like he could play offensive tackle.

I understand not practicing him with the team to an extent (not wanting to take practice reps from guys who are definitely eligible to play), but not having him doing conditioning work with a strength coach on a regular basis is just foolish. Foolish enough that I have a hard time believing it. I know it's been stated before that he participates in individual workouts, but I understood that to be working with Kirby or another assistant.

Renardo has slimmed down considerably from before Christmas. Stans is covering the whole conditioning thing up. He has been working with Richard Akins and Robert Kirby for two hours on a daily basis getting back into playing shape. He will be able to come in and give us at least 10-15 minutes if he is ruled eligible. Stans knows that Renardo is in better shape he just is not talking about it.

with the attitude towards strength and conditioning within our basketball program. If your trademark is going to be defense and rebounding, wouldn't it be a good idea for your players to get stronger the longer they spend on campus?

Stansbury definitely needs some new blood on his staff, if for no other reason to remind him of stuff he used to know. At this point, even if somebody could miraculously get Ravern to care about defense, I'm not sure it would do any good b/c he'd be too weak to stop a number of players anyway.

is not that he isn't in decent shape, but that Stans seems to be in the dark about it. You would think he would have some idea of what's going on. Apparently Veazey is going to follow up this afternoon. I would be interested what Stans says about it.

to be in top shape himself, since he is likely wanting to attract some looks at the next level after the season. If he isnt in shape he's really got no one to blame but himself. Sure Stans should probably push him more as yall said, but he really shouldnt even have too.

But I would be much more comfortable believing it if I didn't have to watch our 6'7, 170 lb SF play each week.

and I thought that he looked like he had slimmed down a bit as well. I just chalked it up to the fact that he was wearing all black and black is supposed to be slimming or something or something like that.

The kid is fine. Stans just doesn't like to show his cards to everyone at the table.

hes is in sanderson almost every afternoon doing some kind of work on the treadmill. Usually he is in there with robert kirby, or with atkins the basketball strength. he is usually there by the time i get there and stays for about 30 min after so really have no clue how long he works out for.

If nothing else, he should be getting in shape for the NBA draft. I mean the freaking NBA is going to notice big time if he is out of shape. Isn't that the entire reason he came to college? Just to use it as a stepping stool to get to the NBA. Workouts for that are right around the corner. If he is out of shape it is Stans' fault but Sydney is an idiot for letting himself get out of shape. I just have a feeling this guy is going to be a wash. Like most other things at State it seems to good to be true. I hope Renardo reads this and proves me wrong.

There is no excuse for Renardo not being a finely tuned athletic machine. For the team's sake, for his draft stock's sake, formy faith in Rick's sake, he betterbe ready to goonce the light turns green.

but it is awful that a head coach could let someone potentially as important as Sidney get out of shape. If nothing else it is telling other top recruits that "we won't help you get to the next level."

There’s absolutely no type of conditioning there at all. It’s very poor. What scale I’d put it on, I don’t know.
Apparently that treadmill work does not impress Stansbury.

I will say that I don't care if I have to watch a 6'10'' 300lb+ tub of lard huff and puff his way down the court. He'll at least have a little better chance at being physical than our guards that can't figure out how to eat themselves past 170lbs or Kodi Augustus, who is under the impression he's one of said guards. At worst, we have another player who has the potential of being physical - which is what we desperately need right now.

Sidney stays on campus by himself, with no one to watch him until they get back and we all know what Pizza can do to you. As much as anything, he needs a gate keeper, because he has always beengood enough that he has never felt the needto maintain any sort of training schedule or conditioning regimen. I remember hearing that Stans said he stayed behind on campus during one road seriesand gained 12 pounds. I do know that big guys can throw additional weight on very fast. I had a nasty coment ready to follow that last statement that I won't use.

My hope is that Stans is saying these things so that he is covered regardless of how Sidney does if and when he plays. One thing, I don't blame Stans for keeping him away from practice because noone knows if he will ever hit the court for the dogs. We all just hope it will happen and happen soon.

Regarding my opinion, I saved my KFC bones last week and still castthem out every night. The results are still very inconclusive. I'm thinking about trading them in on some Popeye's, except what I usually get there is red beans and biscuits and they make a real mess when cast out.
