Sign and place question.....

What determines the destination of a sign and place guy? I know sometimes they end up in prep school and lose no eligibility and sometimes they go to JUCO. What determines where they go? I assume prep schools are "paid for" by the student and JUCO is paid for by scholarships. I will hang up and listen to your answers.

Those scholarships are funded by an endowment that anyone can help fund, and preference "might" be given to certain players for scholarships based on who contributes to the endowment.

At least that's what I've heard, and if it's truly the case, it's a very unique way for prep schools to basically allow boosters to pay for a guy to go to prep school while skirting the NCAA rules.

Anyway, on your question, I believe prep school vs. Juco is determined by graduation. Someone correct me if I'm wrong on that, but I don't believe you can attend prep school if you actually graduated high school. If you came up short of graduation, you can attend prep school to finish your high school education. Again, I could be wrong on that, but I heard that somewhere.

the kid that fails HS gets rewarded with 4 years of eligibility at a D1 school. The kid that passes but has to go to juco, gets rewarded with no more than 3 and usually only 2 years of eligibility.

Eligibility-wise it doesn't seem fair, but if you fail to get it done in the classroom, it gives you an extra year to re-take courses and re-take your standardized tests.

It makes sense, but it doesn't seem right to have it balance that way.
