This! He has large upside. I'm not sure we will have him more than 1 year but he may be smart enough to know he's gonna get a big pay day at UK and stick around next year too.Completely worthless opinion, but I think euro basketball has grown so much over the years, while our AAU leagues have leveled off.. that we sort of have to respect the competition that guys like Luka and Sengun played against during their "highschool" years.
Granted we can say this about Big Z and many others who didnt quite pan out.. but we know Jelavics league is very solid, and hes excelled pretty much everywhere hes been since 16 playing FIBA/pro ball. Almost went to the draft instead of coming here.l
I think the only real hurdle will be adjusting to our style of basketball. Different rules, different styles. So a little bit of a hurdle there to start the season. But thats about it. I think hes gknna be solid.
Not sure if what I said was one of the negative ones you are talking about but I’m not trying to be negative. I think he will be solid but it’s not outdated to think the SEC is way more physical than Euro or even NBA. This is one of the ones where I hope I’m wrong. He looked good in the videos I seen but also I was looking at the athletes around him and it’s just not the same. He most definitely is physical enough it’s just what kind of mindset will he have. Mo will whip him into shape real quick. I do expect him to be a big part of the team.None of us know of course, but the knee-jerk negative reactions remind me of many, many "predictions" I saw about Jokic and Doncic when they were drafted into the NBA. Jokic was taken 41st, and there were people calling that a wasted pick. When Doncic was taken 3rd, many, many people questioned that pick.
Every European hasn't panned out, obviously. But the idea that they can't play in America at any level is out-of-date thinking.
As for me, when I watch whatever video is available on the guy, I see a skilled, intuitive player who won't be overmatched physically. I can't see any reason he won't succeed, and succeed in his first year. I'm not predicting all SEC, but a solid contributor.
Diabate will need to improve on his propensity to foul in order to average those minutes. I believe they will average close to the same minutes.Great question...and to me, hes' the most intriguing player to me.
1. I like having a big with shooting, passing and ball handling skills in Pope's offense
2 His tape appears he's not a stiffer/non athletic Euro players that can be normal for many bigs....he appears to move fluidly to me for a PF.
3. I do have scientism that he'a this great shooter....his shooting numbers have not shown him to be a deft shooter...but his stroke looks great
4. And with any Euro.....the ability to play physically is a usual issue...and I wonder about him on teh backboards, defensive toughness.
IN the end, I expect to see Diabate get 28 -30 min at the the PF ...adn Jelavic to get 10-12 min of spot duty.
You mean adjusting to the SEC Baska-football , Rock’em Sock’em Robots league.Completely worthless opinion, but I think euro basketball has grown so much over the years, while our AAU leagues have leveled off.. that we sort of have to respect the competition that guys like Luka and Sengun played against during their "highschool" years.
