I love this kid. I think down the stretch we saw tired legs, but this kid is fun to watch. He is money with his jump shot 14-17 feet out.

You may have found your starting point guard for 23-24 in these last two games. C what happens in the Tournie and over the summer. Will have sone interesting lineups next year with Griffith, Mulcahy, Simpson, Spencer, Mags and Davis fighting for time at the 1, 2, and 3 positions. You can even throw in Hyatt, Ndongo and Chol into the mix with two players to be named later from the portal.
He will learn...he has guards on this coaching staff to teach him. The poor kid lives in a world where there are message boards with "grown" men (using that term very loosely) constantly pointing out that what the Rutgers basketball team most needs is scorers. Maybe he listens to people like that too much sometimes...he'll learn to know better lol. GO RU!!!
Relax. He had 17 points. We need the good shooters to shoot. Cam Spencer was only taking 4 shots a game anyway when Simpson was on the bench for the last month. Jalen Miller 2 three pointer airballs and Caleb 2 threes bricked are the shots that should have went to Spencer, not Derek’s shots
I think Simpson has gotten a bit more selective in taking shots, compared to early on
Team was exhausted at the end which affected their finishing on the offensive end.
And he sounds like a young Michael Nesmith.

I believe Derek will be a combination of players that excelled at Rutgers.
Simpson is a freshman with a shooter's mentality that expands our team game as a point guard.
His shooting percentage will improve with experience and his foul shooting is good (except the 2 missed foul shots at the end of the game).

His speed and slashing is adding a different (and much needed) element to the offense. It opens up opportunities and I don’t feel as though he is forcing shots vs taking advantage of his speed. I think the keying on Spencer by opposing D and other players poor shot selection is what is limiting Spencer but even he is making the best of it by driving inside. The two complement each other and in the end will create more opportunities for Spencer if the poor shooters stop chucking up shots.
