Argue with the BCS model of only having the top two play for a championship, but the BCS system was the best rating we ever had. In a 24-team playoff, we would be traveling to Tennessee in the first round for a chance to play at Notre Dame

Other SEC:

Oregon at Ole Miss - winner to Texas
USC at Kentucky - winner to Georgia
LSU at Missouri - winner to Indiana

Otherfirst round matchups:

Boise State at Texas Tech - winner to BYU
Wake Forest at Utah - winner to Alabama
Oklahoma State at UCLA - winner to Ohio State
Houston at Iowa - winner to Miami

So using a system that doesnt exist and a format that doesnt exist, we would be in the playoffs.

Ok then.
Well, you follow college football enough to know that as early as next year, there will be a 24-team playoff. There is a push to return to a BCS-type ranking to determine those 24 teams.

I always throught the BCS method worked great. I did not understand the need to go to a commitee when the playoff system was implemented. Why not just apply the BCS ranking to come up with the playoff seeding? I have said this before, I don't understand the need to constantly tinker with/and tweek things.

Yep, definitely aware of the playoff format.
As for returning to the BCS formula(or 'type' formula?), I hadnt heard of anything beyond the typical general desire that has existed for years now. Also, I swear I have read/heard that BCS rankings are a cheat sheet that some in the CFP model use for determining the weekly CFP rankings. Changing to a BCS ranking system next season would be significant.

Itd be cool if all this was in place now.

I would openly question the legitimacy of any ranking system that has Tennessee as a Top 15 team or LSU as a Top 20 team at this point.

The BCS criteria didn’t suck, but its comical to look at them (or anything else) before Week 9 or Week 10. There’s so much that will change by the end of October. There’s a reason why the CFP committee doesn’t release anything until after the 8th or 9th week.

17 Bama and Georgia. I want Mississippi State to have a chance. A 24-team playoff means realistically we have a chance every year.
I realize that you think that an expanded playoff would give us a chance but it would only give us a chance to get beat in the first or second round. Also, historically how many times have we finished in the top 25 at the end of a season? Not many

first or second round playoff loss >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Dukes Mayo Bowl win

We have finished in the Top 25 15 times. We have won 15 bowl games.

A playoff loss is better than a meaningless bowl win.

No it wasn't. The computer polls didn't use margin of victory and I believe only 1 of them was designed by someone with a background in statistics.

Even worse, 5 of them had completely proprietary formulas that couldn't be audited, so we'll never know if they made a mistake. I know that sounds conspiratorial, but there was 1 year where the 1 public formula have an error, and when it was discovered, the final standings had to be reissued.

I prefer objective computer rankings to a selection committee, but the BCS is rightfully rotting in hell.

(Not to mention that coaches like Mack Brown openly talked about how they intentionally overranked their own teams to juice the BCS standings. Conflict of interest?)
