I will. And I will preface with I agree with how we handled it, but to play devil's advocate ...

On Auburn's second touchdown, there was a holding call on the 2nd down play. We declined the penalty and Auburn had 3rd and Goal from the 13 rather than 2nd and Goal from the 25. (The hold occurred at the 15)

On the 3rd down play, Newton hit the middle of the field and scored a touchdown. If it would have been 2nd and Goal from the 25, I imagine Auburn would have taken a more conservative, get the field goal approach to the series, but one shot from the 13, you take it.

Did anyone question this? We talked about it among our group but everyone said decline it.

like upthemiddle said, if you can't stop a team on 3 and goal from the 13 you don't deserve to win.

I'd rather give them one shot from the 13 than two from the 25.

There's no excuse for giving up that TD in that situation.

That was the one call I thought was dumb of Manny. It's 3rd and goal from inside the 20. By declining the penalty, we were essentially giving them the field goal.

If you blitz, you're leaving receivers wide open. The best you can hope for from the blitz is either a sack or an incompletion. They are still kicking a field goal in that situation. I say stack the goal line with players in a zone and make them get by you for a TD.

I think we should've taken the penalty and played conservative for 2 plays. They were going to score either 6 or 3 in that situation. We can't always hope for a blocked FG, so take the 3. Our biggest thing we said we were going to try and do was limit big plays, and they got one on the touchdown pass where we blitzed.

heck look at what JSU did to OM last week in OT with ONE shot from the 30. No point in giving a team 2 shots if you don't have to. And we should be able to stop ONE play for goal to go at the 13. My only critique was that we probably got a little too aggressive there and should have played more coverage given the short field. Even if Cam had run we could have had plenty of guys to come up and meet him before he got to the goal line given the short field.

meaning either we accept a 10 yard penalty from the line of scrimmage or we decline & it's 3rd down. I like declining it at the time because they'd had 2 bad plays in a row - I think Newton had fumbled the snap before that, then the 2nd downplay for no gain.
