Should be to claim the 1941 football natty. Bama claims it and we beat them plus had a better record, our claim would as strong than their's. It would be cringy for a while, but folks would move on quickly and it would be generally accepted in a year or two.

Lots of teams have gone back and claimed old titles, most of them probably inspired by the Tide.

Kentucky, Minnesota, Oklahoma State, Texas A&M, and USC are a few who’ve treated themselves to retroactive crowns. Many of those are actually defensible, the “this thing in the NCAA book says we’re No. 1” argument applies to UCF as well, and most of Bama’s revisionist histories are fine.

But nobody else has claimed anything quite as egregious as 1941.

And just because one selector named a team No. 1 doesn’t mean common sense should go out the window. Many schools have teams that were named No

I think we have a stronger claim to the 1940 championship.

This would not be a good move. Who cares about the 1941 national championship? We should be trying to figure out how to win football games, not retroactively claiming meaningless national titles.

It would be embarrassing for a football program that has won one SEC football game in 967 days to retroactively claim a national title from 84 years ago.

ETA: The one win in that span included the greatest false start in history...

Probably. You are looking at it more seriously than I am though. I think it would be freaking hilarious. At the end of the day it’s football. Have fun. Poke your rivals in the eye.

How would it have any impact on our trouble today? We're talking about simply adding it the media guide and putting a sign up in DWS.

I understand we have an extremely self loathing, low self-esteem, low T fan base, how could anyone be against this? Do our fans hate our program so much they want nothing positive?

Reality check, there'll likely be few positivities in the 2025 season.

I didn't say it would impact our current success, but it would be a bad look.

It's not low self-esteem to say we are above such a chicken-**** move.

I agree we will be better in 2025. That's why I want to focus on the current team and beyond. Our focus should be on becoming a competitive team in the SEC that has a chance to make the CFP, especially considering expansion to 16 teams is very likely.

I am against retroactive championships full stop. Athletic competition happens in real time. It doesn't make sense to claim a championship 84 years later. If we weren't champions in 1941, we can't magically become 1941 champions in 2025.

I would feel the same way if I were an Alabama fan. It's ******** that they claim the national title in 1941. We should point that out at every opportunity, including the fact that we beat them and won the SEC that year. But claiming our own mythical championship isn't a good counterargument.

No you wouldn't! If you were and Alabama fan you would claim a National Championship for 1812, saying the Tide ran all over The Brits when they tried to come into the Mobile Bay!
